Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Recreation and Wellness (RecWell) is housed in the Division of Student Affairs. RecWell fosters comprehensive wellness by engaging students and the UNCG community in experiential and educational opportunities. We promote lifelong success through meaningful and inclusive programs and resources. RecWell offers comprehensive recreation and wellness programming including; fitness, aquatics, informal recreation, outdoor adventures, competitive sports, Esports, and wellness education. The department strives to provide opportunities that enhance student success.

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Fitness, the Coordinator, Fitness Programming is responsible for the daily implementation and growth of a wide range of recreation and wellness programming and services. The Coordinator provides leadership and direct supervision of student personnel within the fitness program area, implements departmental policy, procedure, risk management and assessment in execution of programming to ensure the highest level of programming to the UNCG community.

The Coordinator position is an integral role to the fitness program area. As such, some responsibilities will overlap with informal fitness, personal training and equipment management. Weekend and evening work is intermittently required to meet the needs of the position.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year accredited institution.
  • National certification in group exercise and/or personal training
  • Team-player philosophy and able to successfully work independently and in collaborative groups.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong commitment to the development of students to provide leadership training, support academic success, and professional development
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid or able to attain within the first three months of employment.
  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours in addition to regular University hours.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Nationally recognized fitness certification in Group Exercise and/or Personal Training
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Sport Management, Exercise Science/Kinesiology or related field from a 4-year accredited institution
  • Two years professional experience in recreation, athletics or fitness in higher education or commercial setting (completion of a Graduate Assistantship will be counted in professional experience).
  • Experience managing or assisting with the management of student and/or part time staff
  • Marketing, promotions, communications and event-hosting experience
  • Competent in recreation/fitness software including, but non-limited to: Fusion, Connect2 and Time Clock Plus, TIme Tap, When2Work, Canvas, EMS, Handshake
