Internship will run approximately through mid-September - prefer local candidates attending local universities in the greater Seattle, WA area

Lundbeck Seattle Biopharmaceuticals (LuSBP) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Formulation Development department as a summer intern, participating in state-of-the-art drug product development, including investigation on the freeze/thaw scale down model of bulk drug substance (BDS) container, using fundamental development principles to solve problems as a member of an integrated team in support of the large molecule pipeline.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Design and perform experiments to investigate the freeze/thaw scale down model of bulk drug substance (BDS) container and determine the optimal scale down model for freeze/thaw on BDS to support biologics drug development.
* Perform protein characterization and analysis on placebo and formulation samples using biophysical and biochemical analytical techniques including but not limited to dynamic light scattering (DLS), pH, protein concentration, subvisible particle measurement, and size exclusion chromatography (SEC).
* Work on buffer preparation to support formulation development and sample testing.
* Participate in routine lab activities including but not limited to instrument maintenance and cleaning, lab supply inventory, lab cleanup, and others if needed.
* Analyze and document data and scientific findings using electronic notebook (ELN).
* Closely collaborate with cross functional teams including upstream, downstream, and analytical development.
* Summarize and/or present results in a report and PowerPoint presentation.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
* College students with at least 2 years coursework in life sciences or engineering.
* Basic understanding of physics, chemistry, and biology.
* Capable of carefully following instructions, hard work, and overcoming challenges.
* Enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
* Completed coursework in chemical engineering, bio engineering, biotechnology, molecular or cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences.
* Some laboratory experience or basic understanding of laboratory principles and techniques

TRAVEL:
* None expected.
