The Department of Transportation is looking for a skilled Welder to join their team and assist with various welding duties. This position involves repairing and maintaining buildings, grounds, vehicles, equipment, and tools. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will have significant responsibility for maintaining a safe workplace for yourself and your colleagues. This will involve following established safety guidelines and using the correct equipment to reduce potential risks and hazards. It is crucial to stay alert to your environment and report any potential safety concerns. It is also important to keep your workspace clean and organized, as well as properly store materials to prevent accidents. A key aspect of this role is estimating repair and fabrication costs, as well as the time required to complete these tasks. This information will be used to make informed decisions with your supervisor on whether to do the work in-house or through a contract. Additionally, you will need to prioritize your work to ensure the equipment is utilized efficiently and productively. By fulfilling these responsibilities, you will help create a safe and productive work environment for yourself and your colleagues.

- Full-time employment. 37.5 hour per week
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Work hours will change during the winter season.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
- Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
- Completion of an approved welder apprentice program; or
- A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
