Job Summary The Natural Gas Fitter plays a vital role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the utility's natural gas distribution systems, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of natural gas services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. This position is responsible for performing field construction activities in accordance with company standards, industry regulations, and public safety requirements.
* Install, maintain, and repair natural gas mains, service lines, meters, valves, and other related infrastructure within the utility's service area. * Operate utility construction equipment, including mini-excavators, trenchers, tapping machines, fusion tools, and other specialized tools. * Perform excavation, backfilling, and site restoration in coordination with other utility services and local municipalities. * Accurately read and interpret utility maps, construction drawings, work orders, and safety documents. * Conduct pressure testing, purging, and commissioning of gas pipelines following company procedures and regulatory requirements. * Maintain a strong commitment to public and crew safety, ensuring all activities are performed in compliance with company safety policies, OSHA, DOT, and state utility regulations. * Respond to emergency situations such as gas leaks, service outages, and damage incidents on a rotating on-call basis. * Record job site data, material usage, and work progress using utility software and reporting systems. * Engage professionally with customers, municipal inspectors, and other utility representatives in the field.
* Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Requires four (4) years previous experience in underground utility or natural gas construction. * Ability to safely operate utility construction equipment and perform physically demanding tasks. * Basic math skills, written and verbal communication skills, mechanical knowledge as well as the ability to use tools and equipment. Basic computer skills. * Strong understanding of construction site safety and regulatory compliance. * Ability to work outdoors year-round in varying environmental and site conditions. * Valid CDL Class A or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire. * Required to live within 30 driving miles of the reporting operating center. * Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours emergency response.
