About the role

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Assistant Vice President of Procurement.

Directs and leads all aspects of an organization's procurement function. Develop policies and procedures related to the procurement of goods and services, including Information Technology. Requires a bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of experience in the field. Familiar with a variety of industry concepts, practices and procedures. Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is encouraged.


What you will do

  • Staff Management: Recruit and develop strategic procurement staff to be a high-performing and motivated team responsible for collaborating with business and supplier partners.
  • Process Management: Identify metrics, tools and processes to optimize sourcing, supplier activities and efficiencies; work collaboratively with team members to prioritize and drive implementation. Develop and implement protocols and practices to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of critical initiatives.
  • Business Strategy: Lead the development, implementation and alignment of sourcing and supplier network capabilities for key commodities and spend categories to achieve broad business objectives. Set strategic vision and goals and ensure execution of all common procurement strategies including supplier management, contract management, common procurement tools and reporting.
  • Strategic Supplier Relationship Management: Measure and own the overall performance of the supplier network through the procurement team. Ensure the procurement team is evaluating supplier capabilities and establish sources for new technologies and markets as decided by business requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with senior functional leaders to establish both short and long-term business objectives. Identify, develop and lead strategic business relationships to enable implementation of the corporate growth strategy, revenue achievement and new product development initiatives. Partner with Law to build contract templates.

Compensation

Salary Range: $137,500 - $229,200 (plus eligibility for executive bonuses)

Who you are



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance, or related field
  • 10 years within a procurement function
  • 5 years of management experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams
  • Strategic problem solver with hands-on execution capability and outstanding attention to detail
  • The ability to navigate complexity, lead several priorities, and deliver under tight deadlines
  • Experience in procurement, general management and electronic commerce and significant experience with negotiations and change management required
  • Strong knowledge of general principles of procurement law
  • Significant experience in contract negotiation and administration


Travel:

Required Training & Professional Development
All newly hired people leaders with direct reports are required to complete a comprehensive leadership development program within their first year. This program includes both virtual and in-person training. The in-person sessions will take place at Symetra's corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington.Symetra covers all travel and accommodation expenses.
