Job Description

EHS Manager

SUMMARY:

Responsible for managing and implementing safety and environmental programs, processes, and policies to safeguard employees and the general public and to ensure compliance with governmental and industry regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Leads and administers the EHS Management System including best practice programs and routine compliance activities; periodically reviews processes and program documentation to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Provides consultation and guidance regarding work safety, fire safety, radiation safety, fleet safety, environmental protection, health protection, and industrial hygiene; provides emergency preparedness standards with departments and participates in emergency response and recovery efforts, as needed
  • Acts as a resource to facility Safety Officers and Waste Coordinators on proper practices and techniques; evaluates training needs to enable effective operation of the established safety systems and processes.
  • Conducts internal EHS Audits to determine compliance with applicable regulations. Works cooperatively with operational leadership to implement corrective and preventative action to resolve audit findings.
  • Monitors compliance with contractual, legal, and regulatory requirements, conformance to EHS requirements, and EHS performance using both proactive and reactive measures.
  • Investigates and evaluates root causes for accidents, incidents, near misses, and occupational injuries/illnesses and monitors them; manages incident reporting system and reporting to regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures EHS recordkeeping and data integrity to provide the business with accurate performance metrics. Provides EHS information for customer preapproval requests and oversees company connections in Corporate online contractor databases.
  • Ensures appropriate risk assessments are conducted and corrective actions implemented to minimize or eliminate injuries and environmental impact that may cause harm to staff, contractors, visitors, property, or company reputation.
  • Promotes a safety culture to reduce EHS risks and maintain a safe and compliant work environment for staff.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Promotes and supports the overall mission of Pace Analytical by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with customers and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.



QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, safety engineering, or a closely related field; AND five (5) years of multi-site safety program management; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Principles, practices of and applicable equipment related to industrial safety and hygiene and hazardous waste management.
  • Federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations.
  • Standard occupational hazards, including accident analysis and prevention techniques.
  • Data sampling and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Project management and research methods and practices.
  • Computer applications related to the work.
  • Record keeping principles and practices.
  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Principles and practices of developing teams, motivating employees and managing in a team environment.
  • Principles and practices of program planning, development, and evaluation.

  • Planning, organizing, and administering comprehensive and varied health, safety, and environmental program and activities.
  • Effective utilization of available tools to monitor, communicate, educate, and administer program essentials across a multi-site, multi-disciplined system.
  • Training others in policies and procedures related to the work.
  • Developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards.
  • Interpreting, applying, and explaining applicable laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Maintaining accurate records and files.
  • Performing technical, detailed safety, hazard, and environmental research.
  • Providing consulting services to supervisors and managers.
  • Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.


  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Using tact, discretion, and prudence in working with those contacted in the course of the work.
  • Performing effective oral presentations to large and small groups.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of individuals contacted in the course of the work.
