Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The mission of the Department of Nutrition Sciences is to fostering excellence in nutrition and dietetics education by empowering diverse undergraduate and graduate students through innovative learning experiences to prepare future nutrition professionals who use evidence-based practices to enhance health and wellness across all populations. The Department of Nutrition Sciences offers competitive distance education programs of study leading to Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics (accredited DPD), Master of Science degree in Nutritional Science with concentrations in Community Nutrition Educator, Gerontological Nutrition, Pediatric Nutrition, Sports Dietetics, or Obesity and Weight Management and Master of Science degree in Nutritional Sciences with Dietetics Concentration (accredited GP) that includes supervised practice to be eligible for the Registered Dietitian credentialing exam. Experiential learning is utilized in each program to include diverse multi-cultural and interdisciplinary perspectives of family studies. Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in Nutrition Sciences.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Lecturer position will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses as qualified in the Department of Nutrition Sciences; advise students; evaluate and grade students' assignments in a timely manner and offer appropriate and timely feedback to gauge students' progress; follow university timelines and procedures related to grading and submission of early warnings, mid-term and final examination grades; participate in normal functioning of the Department of Nutrition Sciences, College of Health and Sciences, and the University including participating in departmental meetings and university obligatory activities including events and student recruitment activities. This position requires presence on campus for student support and university events requiring department presence as directed by the department chair. Strong technology training, skills and ability to deliver distance education courses are required. The ability to teach a wide variety of nutrition courses especially in food service and food science is desired.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrate effectiveness in teaching online undergraduate courses and/or graduate courses in nutrition in wide variety of areas with particular strength in foodservice, foodservice management and food science; ability to work with students with minimal complaints; work experience in the field of dietetics with preferred experience as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist ( RDN); commitment to fulfillment of the department and university's mission; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; excellent analytical skills and reasoned judgment; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others; knowledge and ability to deliver instruction via the CANVAS or similar systems, and experience with technology-integrated learning environments.
Minimum Education/Experience
This position requires a Master's degree in Nutrition or related field but a Doctorate in Nutrition or related field is strongly preferred. This position also required credentialing as a Registered Dietitian. Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate or graduate courses in nutrition; strong technology skills related to delivery of distance education courses.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist ( RDN) credential required.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the person in this position include teaching four (4) nutrition classes online synchronous classes per semester; prompt responses to student questions/issues; academic advising; serving on departmental committees; recruiting; delivering classroom instruction that will include lectures, seminars, tutorials, assessing student coursework, and keeping office hours.

Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
This position requires retaining and supporting accreditation and annual report initiatives, the collection and analysis of assessment data for accreditation and continuing education in the field of Nutrition and Dietetics to meet accreditation requirements.

This position requires to support department or university outreach efforts in the community and on-campus.
