POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State Behrend and the Susan Hirt Hagen Center for Community Outreach, Research, and Evaluation (CORE) is seeking an experienced candidate to serve as the Assistant Director of Institutional and Applied Research.This is a split position, supportingboththe college's student retention efforts and other objectives from theStrategicPlan, and supporting CORE'sapplied research and evaluation effortsthroughout Pennsylvania and other states.

The Assistant Director of Institutionaland AppliedResearch interacts with, and supports, numerous academic and administrative units across the college that report to the Chancellor'sOffice andmayinteract withunits across the university.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Collaboration within the Research and Evaluation arm of CORE, including quantitative and qualitative data collection and analyses
  • Development of quantitative and qualitative experimental designs
  • Project and database management
  • Grant writing
  • Evaluation report writing
  • Survey/assessment developmentwhich supportthe data needs ofboththe College and CORE

The successful candidate will possess extensive training and/or experience in both quantitative and qualitative experimental methods, and strong data analysis skills using SPSS (required),MPlusand/or R (strongly preferred), and at least one qualitative analysis program (e.g., NVivo).

An understanding of predictive analytics, or a willingness to learn, is strongly preferred.Ability to organize, implement, and transcribe individual and focus group interviewsina research context is also preferred.

The successful candidate should be proficient in correlational (e.g., multiple regression) and experimental (e.g., ANOVA) designs, and familiar with path analysis and longitudinal techniques (e.g., Structural Equation Modeling, Hierarchical Linear Modeling). The successful candidate should also excel in interpersonal communication and team building, show initiative in seeking outside fundingopportunities, andbe comfortable working independently. Institutional research activities will rely on the incumbent's experience to generate sound strategies and research programs for clients utilizing tools includingLionPath,iTwo, and other university resources.

This position will be filled as Assistant Research Professor or Researcher. Master's degree is required for the rank of Researcher; Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) is required for Assistant Research Professor. Doctorate is preferred.
