SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Strategy & Operations Leader, Chief of Staff is a key partner and advisor to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) on a variety of strategic and operational matters. This individual plays an integral role within the Commercial & Portfolio Strategy (CaPS) leadership team, and is responsible for enabling commercial strategy, enhancing alignment and execution, and driving operational excellence across the CaPS organization. They will support the CCO in staying informed about the business and market performance, identifying key insights and priorities to improve strategic discussions and decisions. They will also provide 'chief of staff' support to other CaPS leadership team members, such as the SVP, Value, Access & Strategic Pricing, as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner with the CCO and CaPS Leadership Team to formulate and operationalize CaPS goals and objectives, ensuring alignment with BioMarin corporate strategy and objectives
  • Oversee CaPS objectives and key results (OKRs) by tracking and reporting progress; Keep the CCO and other stakeholders informed on key accomplishments, risks, and next steps
  • Collaborate with the CCO, BU and International heads, Business Ops & Strategy, and Product & Portfolio Strategy team, to plan for and optimize the performance of current and future products, assess and communicate risks, and inform reforecasts as appropriate.This includes bringing early signals and strategic themes to the attention of the CCO, helping to prioritize focus and follow-up with CaPS leaders.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the CCO and CaPS leadership team, facilitating communication with other members of the executive team as needed; Anticipate the needs of the CaPS leadership team, providing appropriate support and guidance to ensure the departments are operating efficiently
  • Partner with the CCO to orchestrate CaPS LT meeting rhythm, agenda, content, and offsites to maximize team effectiveness and ensure optimal value is created; Lead and/or facilitate productive debates on key business plan and organizationally relevant topics
  • Support the CCO in defining, developing, and rehearsing high-impact executive communications, such as presentations for Board of Directors meetings. Balance board-level narrative development with day-to-day understanding of organizational issues and opportunities, acting as a connector between strategic intent and operational execution.
  • Serve as a critical liaison within the organization, maintaining a strong connection to field-level realities while effectively conveying key strategic messages for internal alignment, external communications, and engagement with investors or the board. This balanced approach positions the CoS to be a trusted advisor across all levels of the organization.
  • Coordinate with CaPS leaders and their teams on key operating model activities, annual brand planning, LRP Planning, revenue budget setting, and re-forecasts; Guide, provide direction, and track progress toward deliverables related to LRP and Upside Scenario deliverables, LCM Planning, and Portfolio Prioritization initiatives
  • Support the Investor Relations Team and BUs in preparation for Quarterly Earnings Calls and engagement with investor audiences as needed
  • Partner with FP&A and CaPS leaders to ensure budget and business reviews with the CCO are effectively planned and managed; Support oversight and guidance throughout both the budget and re-forecasting processes to achieve BU and cost center alignment with targets; Communicate clearly re-forecasted targets to CaPS LT members and track/guide management to these targets. Partner closely with the Head of Business Operations & Strategy and FP&A to maintain an integrated view of commercial performance and organizational health.
  • Ensure alignment with BU Strategy and Performance Leads to drive a cohesive CaPS perspective and lead any coordinated activities such as BU engagements and events; Build a strong network with all other 'chief of staff' like roles outside of CaPS to facilitate cross-functional partnership and connection
  • Partner closely with People and Communications leaders on matters such as organizational communications, employee engagement surveys, and culture initiatives
  • Represent CaPS in cross-functional forums, initiatives, and special projects
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in pharmaceuticals, biotech, and/or management consulting
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of the commercial and/or portfolio strategy function
  • Strategic thinker with experience developing and implementing cross-functional plans[
  • Proven project management skills; Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholder alignment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; Capable of crafting compelling presentations and conveying complex information into clear, concise narratives that resonate with variety of audiences
  • Energetic and hands-on self-starter with a desire to learn new things quickly
  • Ability to navigate organizational complexities, recommend solutions, and promote collaboration across functions
  • Strong leadership skills; Ability to influence without authority
  • Prior experience in a management role, either directly or indirectly
  • Strong drive for results; Operates effectively in a fast-paced environment and delivers results while balancing multiple priorities
  • Requires weekly onsite presence

The salary range for this position is: $null to $null. BioMarin considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
