Position Summary

This position is for seasoned creative professional with exceptional marketing writing skills to join our team as a full-time, in-house Managing Copywriter. This role involves leading and managing a team of copywriters, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, impactful copy and content for a variety of marketing and communications tactics for our portfolio of clients. The Managing Copywriter will work closely with other team members to develop messaging that aligns with our clients' and our organization's strategic objectives. They will also provide mentorship, leadership, and oversight to copywriters, review projects throughout the creative process to ensure quality and effectiveness standards are met and serve as an individual contributor on select client work and new program startups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of copywriters, providing direction, feedback, and professional development opportunities to help elevate their work.
  • Write, edit, and proofread a wide variety of B2C and B2B deliverables, including print collateral, emails, direct mail, videos, social media posts/ads, other digital ads, websites/pages, and more.
  • Review and approve all copy produced by the team, ensuring it meets creative, effectiveness, brand, and grammar standards.
  • Oversee the routing process for all design proofs to ensure content and copy changes meet brand and grammar standards.
  • Be an effective proofreader of your own work, as well as the work of others.
  • Demonstrate leadership in the creative process, collaborating with the Creative Strategy Director and other team members to develop solutions that are both creative and meet established goals.
  • Stay updated on industry innovations and best practices to enhance the overall department offering.
  • Ensure work is completed on time, meets the needs of each project request, and reflects client brand standards.
  • Manage projects using the established digital project management tool, ensuring efficient workflow and timely delivery.
  • Utilize the asset management system, time tracking, and other digital systems as outlined.
  • Attend team meetings and communicate regularly with the marketing project manager on project status and capacity.
  • Foster a positive and creative strategy and growth team environment.
  • Develop and implement training programs for new copywriters to ensure consistent quality and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Other related responsibilities.


Position Requirements

Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in advertising, marketing, communications, English, journalism, or a related field.
  • 7 - 10 years related experience.
  • Experience in the energy space, including utility work, grid optimization, energy efficiency, water conservation and/or demand response, is strongly preferred.

  • Capable of leading projects and coordinating tasks with team members.
  • A portfolio of work demonstrating strong copywriting skills.
  • Experience writing creative, strategically sound, brand-elevating copy that achieves results.
  • Experience providing effective constructive feedback.
  • Experience in managing a team of copywriters.
  • Ability to think strategically and visually, as well as through language.
  • Ability to write for a wide variety of clients, mediums, and target audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively or independently.
  • Ability to shift from one brand voice to the other.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage own workload.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines, adhering to established budgets, including billable hours.
  • Working knowledge of automated marketing tools, such as HubSpot.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Be detail-oriented, organized, and a self-starter.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Outlook.
  • Knowledgeable about basic mathematical concepts, such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
