About the Opportunity: We are looking for a Tool Designer to join our team in Stuart, FL. In this role, the tool Designer will design of complex configuration control, production access, and production handling tools. Responsible for stress analysis of tooling structures as well as ensuring that designs meet specified requirements. This position will be responsible for designs, details, and the creation of new tools, and will also be open to new technologies and innovations to develop new products and improve on existing products as well as reduce costs. Location: Stuart, FL On-Site Responsibilities:
- Under general direction, performs tooling development activities including solid modeling layout and interpretation/implementation of specifications and documentation requirements.
- Monitor and maintains product development schedules.
- Applies Design for Manufacturing (DFM) techniques to product design.
- Reviews designs with manufacturing to ensure tooling is appropriate.
- Design lay-out molds for composite parts, assembly jigs and fixtures etc.
- Will prepare tool designs from concept, to finished tool drawings using SolidWorks solid modeling techniques, and coordinate with fabrication skill centers as a tooling liaison.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma and 3+ years of experience as a Tool Designer or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, symbols and geometric tolerances based on military and commercial specifications.
- Technical knowledge of machining tools and practices, materials, heat treating, plating, die castings, sand castings, investment castings, stampings, forgings, powdered metal, plastics processing, and gauging.
- Strong knowledge in tool concepts and practices, mechanical manufacturing processes, mechanical drawing standards, principles of design and applicable mathematics knowledge.
- Proficient in any or all of the following software applications: Keycreator, Unigraphics, Solidworks.
- Able to manage engineering projects by using MS Project and other MS Office products.
- Working knowledge of aerospace tooling concepts, materials, processes and thorough knowledge of Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
- Familiarity with specifications and requirements for aerospace component manufacturing that includes having knowledge of aerospace welding, coatings, heat treatment, machining and sheet metal fabrications.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a team-based environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Five or more years of related work experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment with a focus on designing complex tooling in SolidWorks.
- Strong math background including trigonometry and geometry.
- Able to research and implement new technologies for possible cost savings and process improvements.
