Position Purpose

The Student Lab Tech in the Physics Department plays a key role in maintaining a clean, organized, and functional laboratory environment. Working under the supervision of the Department Chair, the student lab tech will assist in general laboratory upkeep, occasional support to instructors, and peers. The position offers valuable hands-on experience for students interested in gaining familiarity with lab operations and is ideal for those who have completed at least one physics course with a lab component.

Work schedules are flexible and designed to accommodate a student's academic commitments. Opportunities to work are generally available Monday through Friday throughout all semesters and during semester breaks, with hours arranged by mutual agreement.

This position offers students a chance to deepen their understanding of physics lab environments, improve communication and organizational skills, and gain meaningful experience working alongside faculty. Extended time on campus and consistent exposure to lab operations can enrich the student's academic and professional journey.


Essential Functions

  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization, including proper storage of equipment and materials.
  • Occasionally assist faculty during laboratory sessions.
  • Support department chair or faculty requests related to lab operations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and reliability in working independently on assigned tasks.
  • Other duties as requested

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Applicants should be currently enrolled at Stark State College. Students who have taken a physics course with a lab component in the Stark State Physics Lab are encouraged to apply.



  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay focused without direct supervision
  • Basic familiarity with laboratory equipment and processes (preferred but not required)
  • Willingness to collaborate occasionally with faculty and students
  • Professional conduct and reliability
