Job Summary Directs the activities of three first-line supervisors and up to four Staff Scientists in the day-to-day operations in health physics. This requires the ability to integrate knowledge of these functions being managed in relation to other operations, maintenance, and technical services functions to ensure compliance with regulatory constraints, technical specifications, and associated procedures. Responsibilities
Establishes short-range work plans for assigned crews. Identifies problems through observation of work. Confers with management or staff personnel in the resolution of major problems. Monitors work completed by assigned crews for adherence to established procedures, specifications, and schedules. Ensures 24 hour coverage for specific health physics functions, e.g., health physics coverage for maintenance crews, outage support. Monitors qualifications for technicians to be incorporated into applicable qualification structure. Directs and monitors the implementation of new programs or modifications of existing programs regarding radwaste and health physics, e.g., ALARA Program, Radioactive Materials Control Program, etc. Provides coordination of work activities for assigned crews to maximize productivity and workforce efficiency. Confers with various work groups and peer positions to coordinate work assignments, resolve problems, and keep informed of health physics regulations. Coordinates health physics functions, e.g., processing of liquid, gaseous, and solid radioactive waste, dosimetry and records control, health physics coverage for maintenance crews, operation and isolation of radwaste systems to serve station's critical path needs for outages and refueling. Interfaces with and coordinates vendor services, e.g., for ultimate disposal of all radioactive resins, waste processing during outages, and steam generator cleaning. Interfaces with external stakeholders, e.g., Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO). Serves as member of various committees and/or task forces, e.g., ALARA Committee. Exchanges information with various utilities. Serves as a Qualified Reviewer for station procedures and Training qualifications Provides subordinates with well-defined job expectations, ongoing performance feedback and accurate appraisals of performance. Identifies and prepares potential successors for greater responsibility. Makes recommendations for employee transfers, placements, promotions, and terminations. Provides on-the-job training and employee development training for subordinates. Cross-trains and rotates employees to broaden skills and increase organizational flexibility. Oversees the development and periodic review of work procedures relating to area of expertise. Projects workforce requirements. Authorizes expenditures of subordinates. Ensures work is performed in a safe manner by requiring compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and guidelines and providing the safest possible work environment. Promotes identification and resolution of potential safety hazards.
Required Qualifications
Associates degree in Science and 3 years related work experience In lieu of Associates degree, High School/GED AND 5 years related work experience

Bachelor's degree in Science In addition to desired degree, 5 years related work experience NRRPT and/or Certified Health Physicist
Specific Requirements The incumbent must meet the minimum ANSI requirements for Manager Nuclear Station Sciences identified within Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications (described below)
Baccalaureate in related physical science or engineering and specific formal training in radiation protection 5 years related experience including 3 years of nuclear power plant experience and 1 year of supervisory or management experience The 3 years of nuclear power plant experience should at least be at a level requiring policy, planning, and decision making related to the programmatic aspects of the radiation protection program as a whole. A significant amount of the station RPM's experience should be relevant to supervising in-field radiation protection program activities (e.g., As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA), radiation protection operations, and radioactive waste shipping). The individual filling the radiation protection manager responsibilities for the station shall have 3 years of experience in two or more functional areas of radiological protection, which includes as low as reasonably achievable, bioassay/whole body, decontamination, dosimetry, radiochemistry, radiological environmental monitoring program/radiological effluent technical specifications, radiation protection instrumentation, radiation protection operations, or radioactive waste. In addition to the experience requirements, individuals with no prior RPM experience should have six months of time onsite before being assigned RPM duties. Licensees should evaluate required onsite time for experienced RPMs who are new to a site or a reactor technology (e.g., Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) or Boiling Water Reactor (BWR)). The purpose of the onsite time is to provide a newly assigned RPM sufficient opportunity to learn the location and performance characteristics of key equipment and other plant-specific information that is necessary to make informed decisions concerning radiological safety.
