Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree
  • At least one year of experience in student activities or related college student advising functions (a two-year graduate assistantship may count as one year of professional experience)
  • Experience planning, developing, and implementing large-scale and small-scale events
  • Experience with college student advising and development


License/Certification Required
Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned Masters Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Leadership Education, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated understanding of leadership education and development and connection with campus activities.
  • Experience creating a welcoming community for all students
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and coordinating community-wide educational programming.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of digital tools and social media to support outreach and strategic marketing efforts to students, which may include CampusLabs, Instagram, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties of the Coordinator of Campus Activities include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with Campus Activities colleagues to provide guidance and resources to student leaders that directly support the department, including Club Council, 400+ registered student organizations, Appalachian Popular Programming Society and the four governing councils under Fraternity and Sorority Life (NPHC, MGC, PHC, and IFC)
  • Lead the planning and implementation of campus-wide programs including Welcome to App and student Homecoming events
  • Oversee the management of clubs across multiple branches in Campus Labs Engage, including General Clubs, Club Sports, Fraternity & Sorority Life, and University Housing
  • Serve as community administrator for online student engagement system Engage (via Campus Labs platform); develop training curriculum and programs to support the growth and vision of Engage as a campus-wide tool for student engagement.
  • Hire, train, and directly supervise approximately 20 undergraduate students including Club Hub Involvement Assistants and Tailgate Assistants
  • Meet with students to provide organization advising, one-on-one advising, and event/program advising
  • Oversee and maintain Club Hub (the student organization resource center) including budgetary management.
  • Oversee on-campus student organization tailgating during football season
  • Seek opportunities to develop collaborative approaches in promoting an environment for students which supports the academic mission of the institution
  • Act as a resource and liaison with other University Departments regarding opportunities for partnership and program development
  • Staff university events and programs as needed
  • Serve and participate on University committees as assigned or designated, including, but not limited to Welcome to App and Homecoming planning committees.
  • Assist in the development of professional and collaborative relationships including shared programming, communication processes, and leadership opportunities with campus colleagues, particularly Housing & Residence Life, Dean of Students Office, Wellness & Prevention Services, and Academic Affairs
  • Carry out duties as assigned

Physical Demands of Position
Individual in this position must be able to be physically present both at student planning meetings and at student events. The position should be able to effectively monitor crowds both for quality control and for safety management.
