Primary Purpose of Organization Unit
The primary purpose of this position is to perform custodial services within the Housing Residence Life facilities housekeeping department. This department consist of 8 FTE's. Maintaining an interior environment that enhances campus life that includes but is not limited to teaching, studying, working and living from a health and safety position is paramount to student success. Utilizing temp labor to supplement vacancies is not always efficient and reliable.
Primary Purpose of Position
This primary purpose of this position is to provide custodial services support for The University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the area of building environmental services housekeeping duties. Employee performs a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of residential facilities. Work is guided by a daily schedule of general assignments. Work is performed subject to close review and inspection, with problems and special assignments not covered by instructions referred to a supervisor. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture, operating heavy cleaning equipment, and delivering large quantities of housekeeping supplies. Work is routine and repetitive in nature and may require strenuous physical exertion. Duties may include performing housekeeping and floor maintenance tasks.
Job Description
This is a first shift position, and the description is as followed. Empty all trash receptacles, sanitize can, and replace with double liners. Dust and mop hard surface floors daily and dust vertical and horizontal surfaces (furniture and chair rails, blinds, air vents, windowsills, and ledges). Vacuum carpeted floors and spot clean and vacuum and/or brush upholstered furniture, spot wipe with clean cloth to remove soil. Clean elevator walls, thresholds, flat surfaces, and panels. Disinfect all high touch areas such as light switches, door handles, handrails, elevator buttons, etc. Daily Bathroom Cleaning. Sweep and mop floors, disinfect all surfaces (vertical and horizontal ), disinfect all dispensers and restock supplies, disinfect all shower stall surfaces daily and deep cleaning showers once a week. Clean mirrors and chrome surfaces daily and spot clean walls.
Stairwell and Hallway. Monitor daily for hazardous and cleanup spills and sweep and mop. Dust stairwell ledges and overheads and spot clean walls, handrails, and flat surfaces.
Stripping & Refinishing hard surface floors. Extracting all carpet areas. Moving furniture in order to clean under or behind it. Using a ladder when not able to reach an area that needs to be clean. Keep closet in organized manner and monitor workspace for safety hazards. Sweep entrances and breezeways. Pickup cigarette butts and debris around building. Remove cobwebs and nests from overheads and entrances and sweep outside window ledges. Training Sessions and Seminars - Complete written materials provided and understand equipment usage and procedures.

Position also performs coverage for short staff situations as well as event coverage during and outside normal campus business hours.

This position is Mandatory Personnel: Employee whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.
