NO EXPERIENCE is required with paid training at $25/hour, transitioning to piece rate with expected earnings in excess of $25/hour! About the Job:
As a Gas Meter Retrofitter, you will be responsible for replacing and upgrading ERT modules on gas meters at residential and commercial properties. Your day starts by organizing your route, gathering materials, and ensuring you have the correct tools for the job. You will drive or walk to customer locations, communicate the purpose of your visit, and perform the installation following company procedures. In addition to installing the new modules, you'll verify functionality and ensure safety at each site. At the end of your shift, you'll report any issues, return materials, and log the day's work. This role requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to walk long distances as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Report to starting location at beginning of shift to receive route information, handheld device, meters and related materials. Verify that they have the correct number of materials for the number of route locations. Loads materials into vehicle. Organizes route maps/plans route, fills out time sheets and other paperwork if necessary.
- Drive vehicle to first residence/business on route; uses map to locate site if necessary and verifies address using handheld device.
- Drive or walks route to each customer site depending on the distance. May walk up to 10 miles daily.
- Contact customer and explains purpose of visit and how long it will take; answer any questions. Locates meter and determines if it is accessible/poses safety hazards. Check handheld device to verify meter number to see if there are any notes about site (i.e., location of meter, obstacles, dogs). Enter reason code into handheld device if meter is not accessible.
- Locate the existing Gas Meter on residential and commercial property assigned with the corresponding route in the handheld device.
- Will read corresponding gas meters and enter readings into the handheld device.
- Remove existing ERT module
- Scrape off weathering on existing gasket when needed
- Replace existing gasket when needed
- Using company provided tools and following standard operating procedures will remove the existing module and will replace with the updated ERT module.
- Will program module and will ensure all functions of the newly installed module are working properly.
- At end of shift, reports to Supervisor; ensures that any problems/issues/updates irregularities, damaged equipment, or impediments to meter access, including dogs are entered into handheld device. Logs off and returns handheld device, tools and other equipment and materials. Verifies that correct number of materials are returned compared to installs and skips.
- When feasible and needed will accompany new hires on their routes to provide mentoring tips and guidance in performance of their job duties.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Valid driver's license
- Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings: drug test, background check, and driving record
- Must be able to walk up to 10-15 miles per day, outdoors in all-weather environments
- Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs. of force unassisted.
Working Conditions and Hours:
- M-Th, day shift hours.
- After the initial classroom training and field training, employees will be transitioned to being paid on a piece work basis which allows most of our employees to earn in excess of $25/hour.
- Outdoor work environment
- Normal working hours are daylight hours; limited work hours on weekends except for periodic on-call duty and mass workloads
- Little supervision to give you freedom to work independently and manage your own day
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Successfully complete the company's training program and pass applicable written and field tests (Meterpro)
- Learn and apply safety measure relating to motor vehicle operation and other field related matters
