Loader Operator - Pellet Mills

Job Summary

The Front Loader Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of front-end loaders and other rolling stock in the wood yard of the pellet mill. This position ensures that fiber materials are inventoried, blended, and delivered according to recipe plans to feed the production process. The operator plays a key role in maintaining consistent material supply and supporting optimal pellet mill performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Material Handling & Loader Operations



  • Operate front-end loaders and other mobile equipment to manage fiber piles and feed hoppers.
  • Blend fiber materials to match production recipes and moisture content specifications.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels of fiber and communicate supply needs with leadership.
  • Continuously monitor raw material stockpiles to prevent shortages or overloading.
  • Clean and organize work areas to prevent buildup and ensure equipment maneuverability.


Safety & Equipment Maintenance



  • Perform daily equipment inspections and pre-operation safety checks on loaders and rolling stock.
  • Report equipment damage, malfunctions, or unsafe conditions immediately to maintenance or supervisors.
  • Follow all PPE, safety, and traffic protocols in the yard and around production areas.
  • Refuel and maintain cleanliness of loader and yard equipment as scheduled.


Production Support

  • Ensure fiber delivery to production feed systems is continuous and aligned with operating schedules.
  • Communicate recipe adjustments or fiber quality concerns to the shift supervisor.
  • Support cleanup of wood yard and material handling systems during downtime or maintenance windows.

Qualification Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • 1-2 years of experience operating front-end loaders or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Ability to operate rolling stock safely and with precision in high-traffic industrial areas.
  • Familiarity with material handling, feedstock blending, or wood products a plus.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on a rotating shift schedule.

  • Strong understanding of loader operation, load management, and safety best practices.
  • Ability to blend materials with attention to consistency and quality standards.
  • Awareness of production flow and how material supply affects mill operations.
  • Effective communication with production and maintenance teams.
  • Dependability and attention to equipment condition and worksite organization.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to operate heavy equipment for extended periods, including climbing in/out frequently.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in outdoor environments, including heat, cold, and uneven terrain.
  • Must be able to tolerate dust, wood particles, vibration, and noise from heavy machinery.
  • Must wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
