POSITION TITLE: Food Pantry Manager

STATUS: FULL TIME / NON-EXEMPT

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: CORPS OFFICER

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Food Pantry Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the fixed site Food Pantry and all associated warehouse and liaison activities with community partners and donors. The Manager networks with the larger team and accepts donations, networks with community partners, manages the ordering and procurement of food supplies, and ensures services are well-rendered. The Food Pantry Manager also oversees the Receptionist and Janitor/Driver. Some key duties are outlined but not limited to the duties described.

  • Ability to work & support all people including youth, adults and seniors
  • Leadership experience is strongly preferred
  • Customer service or social services experience is preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Applications; word/excel
  • Detail oriented
  • Team oriented
  • Be creative and enjoy working in a mission driven, results-driven and community-oriented environment
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Must have a valid WA state Driver's License
  • Must be able to drive a Forklift
  • Must be able to operate a box truck in all weather conditions, Must be 21 yrs of age or older.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Manage all food collections and distribution through the food pantry in coordination with staff and volunteers.
  • Provide supervision for the Receptionist and Janitor/Driver roles in the Food Pantry program.
  • Coordinate with Ministry Program Support role to ensure accurate timecards for employees in Food Pantry Program.
  • Provide guidance to staff in the form of team meetings, annual reviews, and corrective action when needed.
  • Responsible for food pantry facilities, vehicles, and equipment; including maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep; with support of volunteers & Community Job placements.
  • Develop and execute targeted outreach plans to identify and connect with homeless families or individuals and those at risk of homelessness.
  • Collaborate with the Social Services Coordinator/ Pathway of Hope Case Manager to ensure alignment of services and referral processes.
  • Coordinate and execute emergency food distribution services during crises or natural disasters in collaboration with local emergency management teams.
  • Work closely with EFAP & FEMA of funding timelines and OIC for regular pick-up and potential deliveries.
  • Keep the food pantry clean and orderly, and in a fashion to pass USDA inspections.
  • Maintain Gift in Kind donation sheets and turn in monthly with support of receptionist.
  • Organize and conduct workshops for community volunteers and partners on food handling, pantry operations, and cultural competence to enhance service delivery; support from Receptionist and/or Social Services CM/POH
  • Oversee any required runs to agencies and grocery stores to pick up donations, driving a Salvation Army owned vehicle when needed
  • Ensure National Social Services Standards are implemented.
  • Implement and monitor feedback mechanisms to assess client satisfaction and identify service improvement areas, ensuring all interactions respect dignity and foster trust.
  • Assist with Christmas Food Box Distribution including preparing food boxes, supervising volunteers, oversee staffing to pick up food drives & pick up toys as needed.
  • Ensure food shelves are stocked each day and throughout the day as needed, ready to serve clients.
  • When needed, supervise and monitor clients who are using the food pantry.
  • With the Volunteer team, sort all food that comes into the food warehouse, checking dates for spoilage, and rotate stock and or inventory; manage all waste to reuse, recycle, or throw away.
  • Accept donations and provide receipts as needed.
  • Ensure safety in the food pantry of employees, clients, and volunteers.
  • Be prepared to operate the forklift if required.
  • Maintain good community relations between The Salvation Army, contributing partners and donor organizations.
  • Support the 'fresh start' clothing & Furniture shopping experience with the help of volunteers & Community Job placements .



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Ability to operate telephone.
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
  • Ability to understand written information.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must be 21 yrs of age or older.

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.

Paid Vacation:



  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.


  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time.



Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
