This position will primarily support the Engineering, Materials & Production departments of Sumter Metal Products. Our goal is to produce high-quality metal fabricated assemblies in an efficient and cost-effective manner, while ensuring on-time delivery to our customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/ or EXPERIENCE:2-year - 4-year degree or equivalent certification or 5-7 years' experience in design engineering or design-related engineering, in addition to work history with Materials and Lean. A proven work history of AutoCAD/ Drafting / Solid Works knowledge and exposure, and above average computer skills in Microsoft Office Software. Knowledge of purchasing legal and ethical boundaries, raw material source, plant planning, inbound / outbound logistics, customer service, warehousing, transportation, and material requirements planning. Knowledge of the Steel Market and Industries, the ability to negotiate with vendors and procure steel for the Metals Value stream. Knowledge of Direct and Indirect Materials - Procurement process of all items needed for the manufacturing process.Must be capable of reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and assembly details for fabrication. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.The candidate will be required to write routine reports and correspondence and must have effective oral and written communication skills. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Strong ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, check drawing accuracy, use formulas involving area, circumference, and volume.The candidate must have the ability to understand and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABLITY:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.The candidate should be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Supply Chain certification, Engineering Certs and or design related. In addition to Lean Background, with focus on MMF, CCF, RCA and DXF. Manual dexterity as needed type and manipulate parts/components. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts as seen in a manufacturing work environment of the plant floor and activities. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. At a minimum steel toe shoes, eye and hearing protection are required.
