Summary: The Electrophysiology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for providing patient and family centered care that is consistently high-quality and cost effective to ensure optimal care outcomes for patients. The Electrophysiology APP reports directly to the Manager of Procedural APPs and the sponsoring Cardiologist. The APP performs a variety of duties to encompass but not limited to the care and management of electrophysiology patients in accordance with the Brown University Health mission vision and values. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the specific needs of the patients. The APP functions as a clinical leader educator consultant and liaison to healthcare providers caring for the patients across the care continuum. Responsibilities: Cares for patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Obtains medical histories and performs and records physical examinations. Records pertinent progress notes in the medical records and develops treatment plans. Completes preadmission testing and assures patients are prepared for procedures including but not limited to ablations device implantation lead extraction and left atrial appendage occlusion. Provide post procedural care and management for electrophysiology patients. First assist in electrophysiology procedures. Perform independent cardioversions as well as loop implantation and explants. Assesses patient status and participates in the development of a patient care management plan with the attending physician. Participates in the care of electrophysiology outpatient ambulatory care patients by providing consultation and re-evaluations in addition to urgent outpatient evaluations. Responsible for routine and problematic cardiac device evaluations and reprogramming evaluating and treating arrhythmias evaluating and treating other symptomatic cardiac patients both urgent and non-urgent and preparing patients for upcoming device upgrades and generator changes including extractions and revisions. May also assist with invasive/non-invasive diagnostics conducted by a supervising physician in the electrophysiology laboratory. Participates in the education of patients families and caregivers regarding any procedures post-procedural care and expected outcomes and progress. May perform other duties as requested by the attending physician within the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Associate scope of practice. Participates in quality improvement teams clinical research projects and other committees as needed. Maintains quality assurance safety and environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital/department policies procedures and objectives. Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Must be a graduate of either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant Program. If a Nurse Practitioner must have a Master*s Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Nurse Practitioner certification or certification eligible by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Licensed in the State of Rhode Island as a Nurse Practitioner; license must include prescriptive privileges. If a Physician Assistant must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Program with a M.S. degree. Passing grade on certifying examination administered by the NCCPA. Certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required. Functions with demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of the aging processes human development stage and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. Demonstrates clinical expertise in Cardiology. EXPERIENCE: Clinical experience as a nurse practitioner or physician associate for two years is preferred. Must have patient care services procedures and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Healthcare environment such as acute care hospital physician office and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including the use of safety equipment and protective clothing.
