The Nurse Educator provides opportunities for the formal and informal growth and development of clinical and non-clinical staff while working closely with other members of the hospital leadership team. The Educator will evaluate, suggest, create, and incorporate both non-clinical and clinical education that improves medical practices for patients' safety and well-being. The Educator will carry out facility initiatives in accordance with UHS policies and governmental regulations so as to promote the highest standards of quality and best practices in education and training. The Educator functions as a consultant, educator and facilitator for all clinical staff including direct care staff. The Educator will provide orientation, mandatory in-services, continued education and other training to meet all department and facility needs and regulatory requirements. The Nurse Educator will be an active member in quality assurance and process improvement activities and will have a positive impact on the quality of patient care, staff performance and satisfaction, as well as the recruitment and retention of staff.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledgeable of developmental stages of children, adolescents, geriatrics and adult, and social, cultural and environmental influences on both patient and family member. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply to understand and carry out instructions in written, oral and diagram form. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in many different situations. Must have knowledge of curriculum development procedures. Knowledge of performance improvement/quality principles and competency-based training. Ability to model Service Excellence Standards.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops 12-month educational calendar for both clinical and non-clinical staff. Facilitates training sessions, including monthly emergency behavioral interventions, Healthstream assignments. Works with the leadership team to develop the training topics for Laurel Ridge Forum. Coordinates with CNO, Nurse Managers, and Nurse Directors for annual competency training. Received competency from the facility Medical Director to train nurses as QRN for restraint/seclusion/emergency medication follow-up assessments. Continually assesses the educational needs of staff members in the delivery of patient care. Identifies areas of ongoing performance improvement opportunities. Works with CNO to educate staff regarding changes to policy and procedure. Coordinates and manages Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and CPR training. Ensures that recertification classes are held, certified instructors are assigned, and class rosters are sent to HR and the corresponding agency for certification registration. Conducts monthly Code Blue Drills on each shift. Develops process improvement plans based on evaluation of performance. Provides unit training to all disciplines (to include Service Excellence and AIDET/Customer Service.) Works with the hospital leadership team to develop and to train the educational requirements generated from a regulatory agency plan of correction. Ensures quality & safety in patient care and delivery of high-quality care. Assists Human Resources to ensure all employees complete required annual hospital training, with supporting documentation in the employee personnel files. Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, with experience in Psychiatric Nursing

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current Texas driver's license or valid state ID. Current Texas State Registered Nurse license or compact state licensure.

EXPERIENCE: Experience in Mental Health Nursing preferred.
