Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the timely processing of insurance verifications on inquiry and referral calls. Will coordinate and process admission verifications into the hospital patient accounting system. Responsible for coordination between business office and the admission departments on all financial issues regarding admissions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Comply with all Administrative, Clinical, and Human Resources policies and procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Must actively support the mission, philosophy, and goals of the hospital.
  • Must be able to communicate with sensitivity to growth, development, and cultural issues.
  • Works with the Business Office staff in coordination of benefits.
  • Responsible for verifying insurance benefits for all inpatient and outpatient admissions and for collection on monies due from patient(s).
  • Responsible for reconciling and preparing daily census.
  • Responsible for reviewing and updating all patient demographic information.
  • Responsible for making sure all verification inquiries, referrals, and admissions are documented and/or entered into the computer system.
  • Responsible for review admission information for accuracy.
  • Responsible for communicating to the billing staff all information necessary for accurate billing.
  • Communicates any admission financial issues to the Director of Business Office Services.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dress, attitude, support of unit milieu, and hospital mission and philosophy.
  • All other job responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Required: High school diploma or GED

Preferred: Some college; degree in healthcare or business related field.

Experience:

Required: Two (2) to five (5) years' work experience in business office setting in a healthcare related field is required.

Preferred: A degree in a healthcare or business related field could be substitute for work experience. Business office work experience in a psychiatric hospital is preferred.

Licensure:

Required: None

Preferred: Clinical licensure/certification in healthcare related field preferred.
