Job Title: Operations Mixer I

FLSA Status (US): Non-Exempt

Department: Operations

Reports To: Production Manager

Summary: Job consists of mixing materials in a timely manner. Weighing or measuring materials, ingredients, or products to ensure conformance to requirements. Start machines to mix or blend ingredients; then allow them to mix for specified times. Observe production or monitor equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Must be able to use basic math and make accurate measurements while operating a mixer. Job also consists of cleaning and sanitizing equipment, as well as working in a fast paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Collaborate duties with Mixer II based on the mixing schedule for the day
  • Accurately complete all assigned reports and/or forms
  • Ability to breakdown recipes and convert gallons to pounds and pounds to kilograms with the assistance of a calculator
  • Examine, measure, and weigh materials or products to verify conformance to standards, using measuring devices such as templates, micrometers, or scales
  • Ability to operate PLC controlled equipment to stop or start mixing or blending machines when specified product qualities are obtained, and open valves and start pumps to transfer mixtures.
  • Accurately account for incoming raw materials and record their usage on Batch sheets and SunOpta's Oracle inventory system.


  • Measure ingredients to the specified amount on "Raw Ingredient Batch Sheet" and pour into mixing containers or pre-mix tanks.
  • Monitor equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation


  • Record lot codes for raw materials used for quality assurance
  • Test samples of materials or products to ensure compliance with specifications, using test equipment.
  • Follow recipes per SOP (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Follow company GMP's (good manufacturing practices) and all other quality programs as they relate to the production department


  • Assemble and disassemble all mixing equipment


  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and as a member of a team
  • Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when required


  • Responsible for maintaining excellent quality, sanitation, safety and production standards


  • Strictly adhere to all Safety policies (i.e. Lock Out Tag Out, Machine Guarding, etc.)
  • Committed to ensuring that the products produced meet all food safety and quality requirements


  • Asist with other duties assigned by supervisory staff

  • Food Industry experience and knowledge of GMP.
  • Able to consistently lift up to 50 pounds above shoulders
  • Must be able to tolerate standing for long periods of time (8-12) hours.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Basic computer skills


Education:

High School Diploma/GED

Experience:

Manufacturing experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

Candidate must possess basic math skills. Be detailed orientated with good communication and interpersonal skills.

None

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Majority of work is performed standing. Must be able to frequently lift up to 25 lbs to 50 lbs and be able to climb and descend staircases multiple times per hour.
