 JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
 
 
 
 
 The basic functions of a carpenter are to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, wallboard and other materials, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, while conforming to local building codes and OSHA rules and regulations.
 
 
 
 
 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
 
 
 
 
 The carpenter reports to and is directly accountable to the carpenter foreman and/or superintendent.
 
 
 
 
 REQUIREMENTS
 
 
 3.1 Education 
 
 
 
 Required: Must have at least a 10th grade education.Preferred: High School Diploma, and completion of apprenticeship program. Work experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for education.

 Certificate of completion of apprenticeship program. Work experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for education.
 
 
 
 
 Experience
 
 
 
 
 Required: Must have at least 4 years construction experience with mostly carpentry experience.Preferred: 4 or more year(s) carpentry experience and apprenticeship program certificate.
 
 
 
 
 Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
 
 
 
 
 Position requires knowledge of blueprints, sketches, or building plans.Position requires the ability to work with precise accuracy using the tools of the trade.
 
 
 
 
 Physical Requirements
 
 
 
 
 Able to see well (either naturally or with correction).Coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and finger with full use of hands, arms, and fingers.Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding.Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at any height.Lift and carry objects weighting up to 50 pounds and occasionally more.
 
 
 
 
 Mental
 
 
 
 
 This position must be able to comprehend math and interpret data from building plans.Must be able to communicate in English, verbally, and be able to read and understand blue prints.
 
 
 
 
 WORKING CONDITIONS
 
 
 4.1 Work will be preformed both indoors and outdoors. Work days will vary depending on weather conditions. There may be days when overtime is needed. Ajax pays time and a half for all hours worked over 40 hours in a week. 
 
 
 
 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
 
 
 
 Study blueprints for required materials.Using blueprints and standard carpentry tools, layout, cut, and assemble structure as directed.Verify trueness of structure.Set structure in place.Worker MUST supply own hand tools.Worker must be punctual.
 
 
 
 
 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
 
 
 
 Study blueprints for information pertaining to type of materials required and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.Select specified type of materialsPrepare layout, using rule, framing square, and levels. Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials. Shape materials to required measurements. Assemble, cut and shape materials and fasten them together.Verify trueness of structure using standard carpenters' tools.Set structure in place, making any necessary adjustment using standard carpenters tools for accuracy.Worker is responsible for own hand tools.Be at work on time every work day.
 
 
 
 
 MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE
 
 
 
 
 Reads blueprints accurately and chooses correct materials for the job.Follows the direction of the foreman or superintendent to assemble structure to meet blueprint specifications and building codes.Rechecks blueprints and structure to assure accuracy.Makes any necessary adjustments to structure.Demonstrates advanced levels of carpentry experience.Must demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality.
