Job Summary

If you have a keen interest and experience in food safety and quality assurance standards and a stellar background in procurement, come join Compass/Chartwells Higher Education at George Mason University in the heart of Fairfax, VA! As our newest account in Virginia, we are looking for motivated, people-driven individuals who are trailblazers in their field.

Working as the Food Service Quality Assurance & Safety Manager at George Mason University, you will be directly responsibility for the overall operational safety in a college dining account and will be held accountable for the overall safety behaviors of the account. The manager ensures that the account is operating in accordance with the approved safety standards, while providing the university with a safety first facility, maintaining excellent relationships with employees, guests and university as well as other departments within the operation. Food safety and workplace safety education will be provided throughout internal inspections so foodservice workers can understand the "whys" and help to build transferrable skills relative to safety culture that will help all adapt to the high standard that is set within Chartwells.

This position will also be responsible for procurement for the account. Ensuring vendor compliance as well as maintaining accurate inventory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform unit level surveillance safety audits for multiple areas.
  • Identify deficiencies and implement new strategies.
  • Provide written feedback to unit managers regarding unit observations and findings during unit surveillance.
  • Attend meetings, workshops and special events for safety issues.
  • Lead and provide readiness for Health Division Food Service Inspections, 3rd party Food Safety Audits.
  • Attend safety management team meetings and perform Safety Training.
  • Manages Food Allergen Compliance.
  • Develop and deliver on-going maintenance of the Food Safety Plans.
  • Assist unit managers with implementation of Compass safety Standards and Solutions.
  • Lead QA Training with associates, and one-on-one with management involvement.
  • Provide verification that the safety systems are working daily.
  • Serve as flexible safety specialists as first responders.
  • Contribute to the execution of organization-wide guidelines, protocols, playbooks, and additional corporate documentation for the Procurement & Supply Chain functions.
  • Communicate, implement, and execute local and regional sourcing and procurement strategies to support program, corporate, and client goals and objectives.
  • Assist with management of annual procurement budget and vendor supplier base.

Preferred Qualification:

  • B.S. degree in food technology, food science, or related curriculum and/or experience preferred.
  • 5 + years of directly related experience required in Quality Assurance and Food Safety.
  • Experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, or related fields required.
  • ServSafe Certification.
  • Previous health permitting, QA and Safety Training experience preferred.
  • Strong understand of FSMA is a must.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Outlook.
