Job Summary |
The College of Liberal Arts seeks candidates for a
Career Services Specialist I/II/III position to coordinate programs and activities related to placement services and career development services for students and alumni.
The College of Liberal Arts (
CLA) houses 43 majors in a range of fields including the fine and performing arts, communication, social sciences, health services, and aviation. There are more than 40
CLA student organizations that foster leadership development, enhance the classroom experience, and build community. The college currently serves more than 4,000 undergraduate students across all
CLA majors.
CLA Career Services is committed to providing equitable access for all students through personalized career coaching and career development resources. Our office is dedicated to connecting students to experiential learning, internships, employment, and graduate school opportunities, while cultivating community with university partners and employers in order to elevate student career success. |
Essential Functions |
- Provides individual and group career coaching to include (but not limited to) career development, career choice, workplace transition, career development issues, and graduate/professional school placement.
- May counsel and advise students, alumni and others regarding their interests, abilities, and qualifications related to career planning.
- Develops, coordinates, and presents programs, seminars, workshops, class presentations, and events related to professional development skills such as career development, job and internship searches, networking and personal branding, resume writing, interview skills and job offer negotiations.
- Assists in the coordination of career related events in the College of Liberal Arts.
- Develops and maintains effective contact with business, industrial, and governmental employers.
- Collaborates with faculty and staff in the College of Liberal Arts to provide career related information.
- Coordinates with the Director of Career Services and the Office of Career Discovery and Success to implement best practices in career coaching and career development services.
- May train students as peer career advisors.

- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.
Level I - 0 years of Experience in coordinating and/or providing career services and/or programs Level II - 2 years of Experience in coordinating and/or providing career services and/or programs Level III - 4 years of Experience in coordinating and/or providing career services and/or programs
Substitutions Allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience. |
