Job Summary
The Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities, an outreach unit in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University, creates opportunities for reflection on the human experience; manages and interprets the historic Scott-Yarbrough House (Pebble Hill); and provides event space for university departments and external clients.
The CMD CAH Graduate Assistantship (.500 FTE) provides humanities graduate students with applied experience in their field and beyond in the following ways:
The Graduate Assistantship provides the student with an educational experience in which they apply specific learning such as functional knowledge, skills, and abilities, gained from their overall educational program, whereby: 1) greater than or equal to 60% of the student's duties and responsibilities are directly related to the program of study, and 2) less than or equal to 25% of the student's duties are responsibilities that are administrative/clerical in nature, i.e. event setup and takedown, filing, copying. Please describe 1) the specific functional knowledge, skills, and abilities learned in the student's overall educational program to be applied in the work of the Assistantship*, and 2) the benefits added to the student's educational experience.
Essential Functions

  • Program administration and non-profit management experience related to the Alabama Historical Association, including day-to-day operations; newsletter preparation and editing; board development; meeting planning and execution.
  • Coordinate publicity, invitations, and event promotion for Center projects and programs, in addition to other administrative tasks related to programming.
  • Archival research and interpretation of places, people, and events related to the historic Scott-Yarbrough House and additional topics in Alabama history and culture.
  • Assist with preparation of Center space for university and non-university clients and partners.


This position reports to the director and works collaboratively with the Center's manager of programs and event coordinator. The position works twenty hours per week during university operating hours, although evenings and weekends are sometimes required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • All candidates must be either current Auburn University graduate students, OR will be enrolled in Auburn University in the Fall.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
