Pay Range

$103,500 - $131,256 Annually for the TSS.1 level

$124,200 - $157,464 Annually for the TSS.2 level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.


Job Description

We have an opening for a Project Management Engineer. You will work under the guidance of mentoring staff and Principal Investigators (PIs) to provide support on technical projects. By assisting technical projects in a project manager capacity, your responsibilities may include helping manage budgets, coordinating communication among the team, overseeing infrastructure projects, assisting in lab safety/organization, providing advice on how to best proceed on projects, and researching policy and/or how to make processes more efficient. Being able to utilize your experience in the technical setting to advise on and manage projects assigned is a must. This position is in the Materials Engineering Division (MED), within the Engineering Directorate.

This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

This position will be filled at eitherlevel based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will

  • Work under general guidance of staff with experience in areas such as project engineering, project management, mechanical engineering, biomaterials engineering, and materials science to assist Project Leads in successfully executing their projects.
  • Gather, analyze, and present information on scientific proposals and technical updates.
  • Advise Principal Investigators on how to communicate, organize, and track projects/teams through completion.
  • Propose and implement solutions to problems of limited complexity relating to the technical needs of the team.
  • Generate procedure documentation; Create slides for presentations to project leadership, collaborators, and management.
  • Collaborate with other scientists and engineers in the implementation of safety guidelines for experimental operations by applying technical knowledge, policy research, and collaboration with safety professionals.
  • Contribute to the execution and oversight of contracts with collaborators.
  • Contribute to the planning, coordination, and oversight of the fabrication, purchasing, and hardware assembly for projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the TSS.2 level

  • Provide solutions to a diverse range of moderate to complex issues/problems that require analysis and creative use of established techniques and methods.
  • Provide solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects, following defined policies and practices.
  • Coordinate moderately complex to complex work and milestones on multiple simultaneous projects effectively.

Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering field, scientific field, project management, or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience being in a laboratory, R&D, or machine shop-like environment.
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, document analyses, and prepare, present, and explain technical information.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment with initiative, creativity, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and handle multiple projects with competing needs in a fast-paced environment.

Additional qualifications at the TSS.2 level

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with advanced materials or manufacturing development.
  • Ability to provide guidance and/or informal mentoring to less experienced personnel.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project management methodologies and experience implementing project management tools/practices.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master's Degree in an engineering field, scientific field, project management, or related field.
  • Experience conducting experiments in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience implementing a software system, process efficiency, or wide-reaching procedure.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter.
