Optum Insight is seeking a service-oriented Manager, Analytics and Insights to lead the expansion of strategic insights and adoption of data-driven decision-making to support clinical and operational needs within client health systems. Acting as an advisor and interface between the analytics organization and key client business stakeholders, this individual will lead efforts to liberate data and insights for the healthcare delivery system through strategic delivery and support of analytics, with a specific focus on Population Health and Ambulatory Quality.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Stakeholder and Program Management

    • Partner with key stakeholders and executives across the client organization to support their operational and strategic objectives with actionable analytics
    • Manage a portfolio of analytics, proactively tracking and communicating new developments to the client
    • Facilitate prioritization of high-level client objectives as well as individual needs to develop a cohesive analytics roadmap
    • Act as a liaison between leadership and analytics delivery teams to streamline communication and organization of projects
    • Regularly communicate project updates, successes, issues, and risks with stakeholders


  • Analytics Delivery and Subject Matter Expertise

    • Lead efforts to create new analytical insights and capabilities related to population health, quality, outcomes, performance improvement, and other related areas for client provider health systems
    • Create requirements that effectively support business needs and answer relevant questions about performance and opportunities for optimization
    • Perform analysis to answer business questions and guide organizational strategy
    • Partner with analytical platform teams, data engineering, and data governance to ensure accuracy and efficiency in aggregation and alignment of foundational data assets needed to power clinical analytics
    • Act as a subject matter expert in areas such as clinical variation reduction, hospital operations, value-based care, and population health, as well as the Optum products that support these areas
    • Design and lead user acceptance testing to ensure value delivery to the client


  • Education & Data Literacy

    • Maximize the value of analytics to the client by championing utilization and leveraging Optum's data literacy infrastructure
    • Assist customers with orientation to their analytics ecosystem, including reporting solutions across platforms
    • Proactively identify training needs and gaps to increase adoption of analytics
    • Present insights to relevant stakeholders to maximize value and adoption of analytics


  • Team Leadership

    • Oversee and guide team members' workload and progression
    • Partner with other domain leaders to infuse clinical, quality, and operational insights into the decision-making process for financial, growth, and other focus areas

Required Qualifications:



  • 7+ years of demonstrated success in healthcare analytics
  • 2+ years of experience managing analytics projects at physician groups
  • 1+ years of experience guiding and developing junior team members
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%
  • Demonstrated strength in analytics competency using Excel, SQL, R, or another comparable analytical tool


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience managing multiple complex initiatives or projects
  • Experience and credibility interacting with healthcare leaders, including "C" level executives and medical directors
  • Experience writing and understanding SQL logic
  • Experience working in a matrix environment
  • Experience with Epic and/or Cerner modules or components
  • Experience working in Agile environments, employing SCRUM, Lean, and Kanban methodologies
  • Knowledge of key health management-related areas, e.g., network management, value-based care, population health, quality, compliance, provider engagement, etc.
  • Proven solid interpersonal communication, presentation skills, and emotional intelligence
  • Demonstrated success leading large complex programs and/or initiatives where data is a key asset
  • Proven ability to tailor analytics to relevant audiences, including all levels of decision-making (i.e., from real-time tactical decision-making to long-term clinical strategy)

The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
