Position Highlights:

  • Position: Clinical Nurse Manager - Pulmonary Medicine & Medical Oncology

  • Hourly Pay Range: $45.27 - $75.84. The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

  • Location: Edward Hospital - Naperville, IL

  • Full Time

  • Hours: Day Shift - hours vary - Monday through Friday

What you will do:

  • Responsible for planning, administering and evaluating twenty-four hour operation of a assigned patient care area. In doing so, oversees adherence to established budgets, policies, procedures and patient care practices. Identifying areas for improvement, recommends revisions to procedures, and implements same. Responsible for developing/implementing customer focused, safe, user friendly, and cost effective patient care. Providing professional patient care in response to patient load and/or staffing demands. Directing preparation and maintenance of patients' clinical records in compliance with regulatory and accrediting requirements.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. This includes knowledge of the physical and psychological needs of patients served and the ability to respond appropriately to those needs.

  • Fulfills a leadership role which fosters staff growth and is consistent with patient satisfaction, patient safety, mission/philosophy, and unit-based goals.

  • Understands the goals of the organization and can articulate to staff, helping staff to develop plans to meet the organizational and unit goals.

  • Holds staff accountable for awareness and demonstration of organizational values, goals andobjectives.

  • Evaluates environmental factors for safety and adherence to regulatory agencies and completes timely investigation and resolution of identified safety issues.

  • Mentors and coaches staff in the development of their capabilities and understanding of their role, utilizing concurrent feedback, role modeling and leadership skills. Manages and oversees personnel in assigned unit(s) to ensure provision of effective, efficient, and safe patient care in accordance with established standards.

  • Schedules, or oversees the scheduling of, assigned unit personnel to ensure adequate nursing and unit-related coverage with continued provision of quality patient services.

  • Oversees staff in planning and implementing delivery of patient care according to identified patient needs, and collaborates with the medical staff in communicating and coordinating patient care. Utilizes knowledge and skills of unit and department resource personnel in planning and implementing care and resolving complex patient care problems.

  • Utilizes evidence-based practice to determine appropriate standards in delivery of care. In cooperation with leadership and interdisciplinary team, develops and implements approved changes in patient care practices.

  • In collaboration with director, interviews, hires, orients, trains, develops, and evaluates the performances of and, when necessary, disciplines and/or discharges department personnel. Provides direction, as necessary, to staff regarding sensitive and/or complex work, related problems, resolves complaints and responds to inquiries regarding department operations.

  • Investigates, documents and resolves complaints or incidents concerning patients, visitors, physicians and subordinates, informing those of sensitive nature to director.

  • Participates in developing and presenting educational programs for assigned unit and other Hospital units as appropriate.

  • Provides professional nursing care to patients in response to workload or staffing demands and assumes Team Lead/Charge Nurse role as necessary.

  • Demonstrates leadership qualities that reflect accountability and interdependence with other departments consistent with the goals of the unit and organization. Includes ability to effectively communicate with physicians and other healthcare providers to coordinate efforts, resolve operational problems and improve quality of patient care.

  • Develops, secures approval of, and administers unit policies and procedures through participation on committees. Ensures assigned employees are informed of revisions to same.

  • Collaborates with director to plan, develop, and recommend annual unit staffing budget and assists in planning capital equipment and expense budgets. Administers and monitors expenditures and implements corrective action to resolve budget variances.

  • Demonstrates problem solving, conflict management, and customer services skills to serve as role model and change agent for corporate and unit-based initiatives

  • Actively participates in various unit, nursing, and system meetings, councils, committees, and quality improvement initiatives. Consistently supports Shared Governance participation and initiative implementation for self and assigned staff.

  • Develops and tracks meaningful metrics (i.e., dashboards, reports) to measure clinical, financial, and quality outcomes of applicable programs. Reviews data for trends and analyzes the impact on department operations.

What you will need:

  • Required Education, Skills and/or Experience:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher

  • Minimum one year of previous leadership experience

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

  • High level of analytical ability

  • Relatively high level of communications skills

  • Demonstrates problem solving, conflict management, and customer services skills

  • Preferred Education, Skills and/or Experience:

  • Minimum one year of previous management experience

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, business, or other health related field

  • Required License and/or Certification:

  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure

  • Current CPR Certification issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross
