MizzouRec Services and Facilities is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides quality leisure experiences to all members of the campus community, primarily Mizzou students. Research shows a positive correlation between physical activity and educational outcomes of university students. Recreational sports and exercise provide students with opportunities for involvement and to develop a sense of belonging on campus.

Summary
Make a splash in your career and join the MizzouRec team as the Aquatics Programs Coordinator and take the lead in shaping exceptional aquatic experiences at one of the nation's premier collegiate recreation facilities. In this dynamic role, you'll be at the forefront of MizzouRec's acclaimed Tiger Swim program, managing everything from course setup in Fusion to ensuring top-tier instruction and unforgettable customer service.

You'll work closely with the Assistant Director of Aquatics and a passionate team of professionals to create a safe, engaging, and fun environment for swimmers of all ages and skill levels. Beyond swim lessons, you'll have the opportunity to support exciting aquatic events, collaborate across departments, and contribute to the vibrant culture of MizzouRec.

Essential Functions

  • Student Employee Management
    • Hire, train, develop, schedule and directly supervise approximately 40 student part time staff members including Tiger Swim Leads and Instructors
  • Program Management
    • Directly manage MizzouRec's Tiger Swim program including managing course listings in Fusion, providing excellent customer service and ensuring a high standard of teaching excellence
    • Provide on-site supervision during Tiger Swim sessions
    • Assist aquatics team with leading student training, teaching certification courses, special events and meets in the aquatic center and other duties as assigned
    • Work directly with MizzouRec facility team to ensure reservations are submitted for all aquatic events
  • Instruction
    • Lead or assist with lifeguarding courses and reviews and swim instructor training
    • Assist with MizzouRec full staff trainings as needed
  • Event Facilitation
    • Collaborate with other professional staff to support hosting aquatic events and competitions including Mizzou Swim & Dive and other external groups with attendance at events ranging from 200-1200 athletes
  • Assist, as needed, with all required departmental special events
  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve the customer and maintain our MizzouRec mission

Additional Responsibilities
Serve on campus committees and task force as needed to represent the MizzouRec.

Shift

40 hours per week.

Expected hours during Tiger Swim lesson weeks are 1:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday with additional hours scheduled in conjunction with supervisor. When Tiger Swim lessons are out of season, hours will be expected to be 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Hours may vary and evenings and weekends will be required.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in a related area. An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Current American Red Cross certifications in LGI (IT), Water Safety Instructor (WSI), CPR-PR and First Aid or ability to obtain within first six months of hire
  • A minimum of two years working in an aquatic center with experience managing a learn-to-swim program
Anticipated Hiring Range

University Title: Student Service Coordinator II
University Pay Grade: GGS 009
Hourly Salary Range: $21.28 - $25.97
