Essential Job Duties
The job of Classroom Support Technician under general supervision performs a wide variety of moderately difficult media/production tasks in a fast-paced, time-sensitive educational environment. These include on-site support for distance learning classrooms in multiple buildings/classrooms spread across both campuses, capturing and/or streaming live on-campus classes, assisting faculty with computer applications immediately during live lecture capture classes, and ensuring faculty has all that is necessary to teach both the face-to-face class but also to effectively capture the class for online distance education viewing and instruction; performs other job-related duties as required.

  • Assists/instructs faculty and personnel in basic operations of classroom technologies, digital media applications, SMART boards, and computer equipment.
  • Provides support for internal/external circulation of specific technology equipment.
  • Travel between multiple buildings/classrooms across both campuses.
  • On-call to support all classrooms, when needed, during assigned shifts
  • Performs general tasks as assigned in classroom and control room environments including cleaning student desks and lecterns, instructional equipment, resetting student chairs before and after classes, and vacuuming floors.
  • Promotes a professional image while assisting with classroom support.
  • Performs other digital media/production work as assigned or necessary on a relief basis.
  • Maintain excellent customer service skills
  • Must have the ability to work independently and be able to respond quickly to the technical needs of faculty
  • Deliver/stock supplies for classrooms
  • Perform routine cleaning of classrooms
  • Assist with video conferencing as needed
  • Provide administrative and office support
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Minimum Experience/Education
  • Must be able to perform general computer application tasks; work without close supervision; communicate effectively, orally, and in writing; maintain, establish, and cultivate cooperative working relationships with faculty and staff reflecting a service attitude; effectively utilize training to assist faculty and staff in classroom operations.
Department Required Skills
KNOWLEDGE:

  • Possess general knowledge of digital media/production equipment; equipment used in media presentations, video conferencing, and integrated media systems. Maintains a good understanding of video, audio, and lecture capture software (i.e. Panopto), as well as instructional classroom tools like PCs, MACs, Smartboard, A/V collaboration software, projectors, and displays.
  • The incumbent must have a basic understanding of control systems and support software (i.e. Crestron or AMX, Windows, Smart Notebook, MATLAB, MS Office, Adobe, etc.). The incumbent will also be expected to learn other technologies and implement them effectively to support faculty and students.


SKILLS:

  • Demonstrate sufficient skills and ability to operate a keyboard, mouse, and joystick at a rate for successful job performance; must possess excellent customer service skills that are implemented to assist faculty, students, and visitors to the classroom with whatever challenges may arise in regards to instruction in the classroom and the effective capture of the class material.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of collaboration platforms such as Zoom, MS Teams, and Google Meets to ensure high-quality video, audio, and content are all transmitted and recorded to and from remote locations.

ABILITY:
  • Perform general computer application tasks; work without close supervision; communicate effectively, orally, and in writing; maintain, establish, and cultivate cooperative working relationships with faculty and staff reflecting a service attitude; perform quality control measures to accurately proof work; effectively utilize required knowledge, skills, and experience in assisting users as described in above functions; operate electronic and Digital Media equipment in the field when required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • Presentation and active learning style classrooms with various layouts that include stadium and tiered seating, closed control/server room spaces, occasional lifting, pushing/pulling loads, kneeling/reaching overhead, climbing stairs, and walking, twisting, stooping/bending, lifting and or carrying up to 40 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Experience with control systems and support software (i.e. Crestron, SMART Notebook, MATLAB, MS Office, Adobe, etc.)
  • Experience with various video/web conferencing applications
  • Experience with digital media and instructional technology tools such as interactive board, podiums, document cameras, control touch panels, cameras, microphones etc.
