The Opportunity:

The Utilities and Engineering Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Centrifugal Chiller Technician II. This role is responsible for performing daily plant diagnostics, repairs, start-ups, and orderly shutdowns or staging of various brands of UCF's district water-cooled chillers, as well as commercial and industrial HVAC equipment. The technician will also be responsible for documenting all maintenance, service, and installation activities using the university's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), AssetWorks AiM, to complete work orders, maintenance checklists, and daily equipment logs.

Responsibilities:


  • Perform work tasks, report deficiencies, and maintain accurate records of labor and materials used via the CMMS. Enter relevant plant system status in logbooks and CMMS, review previous logbook entries, and analyze system data to ensure equipment uptime. Perform on-call duties as scheduled by the Unit Head.

  • Conduct system maintenance, modifications, and repairs on plant buildings, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, VFDs, electronic actuators, underground distribution pipes, valves, and vaults. Coordinate with the Controls Division when troubleshooting and making system adjustments to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-optimal operation.

  • Adhere to Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Space, and all EH&S policies following university and OSHA regulations.

  • Collaborate with other campus technicians, technical disciplines, and F&S management to proactively assess and resolve multi-disciplinary system issues.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and tidy work environment, ensuring all tools are kept in proper order.

  • Communicate promptly with supervisors regarding any operational deficiencies or system malfunctions identified during daily operations. Perform other related duties as assigned by university leadership.

  • Respond to on-call and call-back situations as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 3+ years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting centrifugal chillers and associated chilled water (CHW) system components.

  • Working knowledge of chilled water systems, pumps, cooling towers, VFDs, electronic actuators, and control systems, with experience performing diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance.

  • Ability to analyze system performance and assist in making adjustments to optimize efficiency and reliability.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics related to chiller plant operations.

  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track maintenance activities, enter work orders, and maintain system logs.

  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and industry regulations, including Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Space, and EH&S policies.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail in diagnosing mechanical and control system issues.

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information and collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, and control system teams to ensure optimal plant operation.

  • Basic knowledge of national and state codes related to electrical and mechanical systems as they apply to chiller plant operations.

  • Willingness to respond to on-call and emergency call-back situations as needed.

  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions, within differing climates, and at different elevations.


Health Assessment Required:

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

This is an Auxiliary funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

Position involves working in hot environments, confined spaces, on rooftops, and at high elevations.

The anticipated hourly range for this position is $26.83 to $35.89. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

This position requires the completion of a Level II background check.
