Position Overview
The University's Information Technology Enterprise Infrastructure unit is hiring an IT Manager for its Installation and Maintenance team. We are seeking candidates who thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and enjoy solving problems, driving innovation, and contributing to a critical service network supporting the University.

This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Enterprise Infrastructure Operations. Under general direction, this position manages the Installation and Maintenance team, overseeing the installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems in a large-scale campus environment. This includes voice, video, data, CATV, and associated software components. The IT Technology Manager ensures public space physical infrastructure meets University standards, develops process improvements, and provides project leadership and consulting. The role includes collaboration with internal units, university departments, and external vendors to design and implement network infrastructure.

Job Description
Team Management and Oversight (30%)
  • Supervise Installation and Maintenance Technicians, including task assignment, scheduling, and performance monitoring.
  • Develop training plans, policies, processes, and services to support team operations.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Enterprise Infrastructure Operations to ensure task completion aligns with technical and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with Construction Project Managers and Telecommunications Engineers to propose and adhere to project schedules.
Facilities Management (20%)
  • Manage building telecommunications room maintenance, construction issues, and problem resolution at IT locations.
  • Monitor facilities-related problem calls and coordinate with Facilities Services.
  • Plan and budget for building updates in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Enterprise Design and Construction.
Reporting and Inventory Management (15%)
  • Prepare and present reports on network reliability, maintenance costs, and key performance metrics.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of materials for installation, repairs, and replacements, charging materials to appropriate accounts.
  • Provide management support and ensure proper material usage by technicians.
Process Development and Technical Leadership (15%)
  • Develop methods and procedures for installation, maintenance, and infrastructure improvements.
  • Lead complex projects involving installation, repair, reconfiguration, and equipment removal.
  • Serve as the liaison between vendors, users, and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Operations Improvement and Security (10%)
  • Review and improve staff operations related to network and telecommunications equipment.
  • Enhance workflows to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Enforce departmental security policies, including key, vehicle, and data security.
Technology and Tool Development (5%)
  • Research and recommend network management tools, testing equipment, and automated systems for performance analysis and problem resolution.
  • Develop processes for utilizing monitoring tools to enhance security and network performance.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required to support departmental and organizational goals.

Required Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma/ GED and seven (7) years of relevant professional experience or an Associate's degree and five (5) years of relevant professional experience or a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of relevant professional experience.
  2. One year in a supervisory and/or progressively responsible management role.
  3. Experience with effectively communicating written technical information, both in one-on-one and group settings, as demonstrated in application materials.
  4. Demonstrated experience in the installation, configuration, problem diagnosis, and repair of telecommunication systems in at least three (3) of the following areas:
    1. Telecommunication Systems: Analog, digital, fiber optic, and coaxial electronic circuitry and equipment.
    2. Networking Equipment: LAN (Layer 2) equipment, WAN (Layer 3) equipment, remote access concentrators, modems, video transport equipment, load balancers, firewalls, IDS/IPS equipment, and other networking hardware.
    3. Wireless Communications: Radio frequency, satellite, and microwave communications systems and equipment.
    4. Data Network Transport: Technologies including Ethernet (100BaseT, 1000BaseT, 1000BaseTX), ISDN, ATM, T1, DS3, Frame Relay, SONET, etc.
    5. Telephony Equipment: Analog, digital, and VoIP handsets, PBX systems, and other telecommunication devices.
    6. Networking Media: Coaxial cable, twisted pair, and fiber optic technologies, adhering to industry standards such as TIA-568A, TIA-569, TIA-570, TIA-606, TIA-607, BICSI TDMM, and the National Electric Code.
  5. Experience with calibrating and using complex electronic test equipment, network monitoring and diagnostic tools, and physical plant monitoring tools as evidenced in application materials.
  6. Experience interpreting and analyzing building system blueprints to diagnose and resolve networking and physical infrastructure problems as evidenced in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Associate's degree with seven (7) years of relevant professional experience, or a bachelor's degree with five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
  2. Five (5) years of experience in a supervisor or progressively responsible management role.
  3. Certifications: BICSI Technician, Systimax Installation and Maintenance, and/or other relevant professional certification in networking such as Microsoft, Cisco, or equivalent.
  4. Experience with establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department, peers, and team members involved in maintenance activities and decision making as evidenced in application materials.
