About This Role

K-State Olathe is looking for an individual to join the Food Programs and Services team as the Kitchen Assistant. The Kitchen Assistant works directly with the Manager, Food Program and Services and other University staff to support the planning and execution of food programs, events and classes. This position will be focused on kitchen and facilities maintenance and sanitation, with responsibilities branching into program assistance and food preparation. This position is part-time (16 hours per week), non-exempt.

Responsibilities include:



  • Assist in developing and executing food programs.
  • Assist with Sensory and Consumer Research Center use of kitchen facilities.
  • Food and materials preparation for events and programming.
  • Develop relationships with clients, guests, students and University faculty and staff, while maintaining a professional image.
  • Help maintain kitchen hygiene

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma (or work equivalent).


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Previous experience working in a kitchen
  • Expected to work 16 hours per week
  • Willing to work flexible hours and days
  • Detail oriented
  • Evidence of being a self-starter
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings
  • Ability to problem solve and think creatively
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must have own transportation


Sponsorship eligibility:

Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
