TITLE:

Social Media Community Manager (Grant-funded)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Manager, Social Media Strategy

BASIC FUNCTION:

Manage the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) influencer community on social media in support of a vaccine confidence campaign. Develop a strategy to recruit an influencer network to advance the outreach of content, attract followers, and foster interaction and engagement among community members and the public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Lead efforts to build a broad and diverse network of social media influencers and validators. Explore strategic partnerships with pediatricians and other individuals at multiple levels, from nano/micro influencers to high profile cultural figures to reach specific target audiences with tested, targeted messages.

2. Cultivate an active, engaged online community. Actively monitor and moderate social media conversations relevant to vaccines to ensure a positive and respectful environment. Engage in proactive and responsive communications, crafting interactive content to promote discussion and promptly responding to comments and questions. Quickly resolve conflicts or inappropriate content that arise within the community.

3. Identify trends and topics mentioned by the community and adapt content accordingly.

4. Distribute strategic paid content to reach targeted audiences with compelling, personalized vaccine messages that are responsive to the latest misinformation.

5. Manage relationships with external public relations firms. Oversee the work of external vendors on content development, ensuring alignment with AAP campaign goals and social media best practices.

6. Manage and coordinate relationships with AAP's pediatrician influencers by coordinating videos, monitoring content to engage with, and planning additional activities such as Instagram takeovers and Q&A's.

7. Write and disseminate a newsletter for AAP pediatrician influencers.

8. Collaborate with supervisor and other leadership to determine community engagement priority and strategy and make recommendations to increase engagement and reach.

9. Leverage proactive and reactive social media opportunities to advance accurate vaccine information.

10. Ensure brand voice and tone are maintained across all social media platforms.

11. Engage with pediatrician influencers and other external validators, influencers, and partners to expand social media outreach and footprint and support communications priorities.

12. Stay current with social media trends, algorithms, and best practices and recommend opportunities for enhancement to social media outreach and activities.

13. Track and analyze key metrics to measure the success of community management efforts. Identify trends and insights to inform future strategies and initiatives.

14. Provide regular reports on community performance to stakeholders.

15. Attend team meetings and contribute to discussions on social media campaign strategies.

16. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in communications, digital marketing, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.

EXPERIENCE:

At least three years' related experience managing social media accounts and/or online community engagement required, including social media influencer management. Must have knowledge of current best practices for building social media communities and measuring effectiveness of strategies. Experience working with health care or advocacy related online communities, particularly related to immunizations preferred. Experience using Canva or similar programs to create consistent and engaging visuals and editing videos for social media preferred. Experience in digital marketing and working in a public relations firm or non-profit medical association a plus.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Must be able to develop creative and engaging content for various online platforms and varying audiences, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, respond quickly to time-sensitive matters, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, moderate conflict, collaborative effectively with various internal and external constituents, and contribute to fostering an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office, core social media platforms, and the ability to learn and apply new and trending technology platforms; experience with Canva, video editing tools, document collaboration platforms (eg, SharePoint), and virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx Teams) preferred. Excellent project management, organizational, diplomacy, interpersonal, analytical, and critical thinking skills required. Some travel and evening/weekend work required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians' availability.

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $79,866.53 - $84,303.70. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, and organizational policies. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
