JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Esker Lab seeks a highly motivated Lab Coordinator to supervise and lead the plant disease epidemiology laboratory within the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology. The lab conducts research on field crops such as corn, soybean, wheat, alfalfa, hemp, and tropical cropping systems.

The coordinator will coordinate lab activities, manage research and extension budgets, and provide training for laboratory and departmental members in culture-based and molecular techniques. Key research areas include microbiological culturing, microscopic evaluation of fungi, molecular plant disease diagnostics (e.g., PCR, amplicon-based technologies) and evaluation, and the operation of environmental monitoring equipment. Furthermore, the incumbent is expected to contribute to field and greenhouse experiments as the project requires. Given the lab's use of big data methodologies, the candidate should possess excellent record-keeping skills to maintain information and data for all scientific projects, including data security and privacy. There are also expectations to assist and keep records regarding laboratory safety and disposal of wastes. Lastly, the incumbent is expected to maintain and procure an inventory of laboratory chemicals and equipment.
