Position Summary Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Mechanical Trades, the Engineering Manager, Mechanical Systems will plan and manage the execution of all preventive maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and equipment, arrange and communicate shutdowns with clients and stakeholders, and ensure completion for the University's Main, Ambler and Center City campuses. The incumbent will manage directly by working in con junction with and coordinating efforts with the service mechanic, engineering, plumbing, and electrical supervisors, as well as filter techs and pipefitters.
Provides oversight of the preventive maintenance program. Oversight includes trades-worker supervision and task assignment, updating equipment information, record keeping, technical assistance, and training technicians to provide mechanical asset oversight, troubleshooting, and repair for the institution. Provide other support, including technical expertise to cross-department or University-wide projects; consult with others as needed to coordinate the planning and execution of projects and the delivery of a service to other departments within the University. Adheres to procedures and standards pertinent to the area of responsibility.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience * Three (3) years of institutional mechanical trades supervisory and/or preventive maintenance program experience. * An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities *Ability to resolve complex problems within the area of expertise. *Ability to guide others in the decision-making process with an area of technical expertise. *Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC, pumps, air handlers, VAV, CAV, Chillers, towers, electrical equipment, building automation, and all related systems common to University buildings and labs. *Knowledge of air handling systems and ability to troubleshoot and accurately diagnose existing and potential problems. *Understanding of ANSI and HVAC codes. *Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with various populations effectively. *Knowledge of project management and the ability to establish priorities. *Working knowledge of closed-loop chilled or hot water systems and refrigeration principles. *Ability to identify individual training needs; may facilitate training delivery; demonstrated work technique, as appropriate. *Must have a basic understanding of building codes. *Proven supervisory skills and the ability to manage projects. *Working knowledge of all applicable computer software, including MS Office. *Excellent written and verbal communication skills. *Demonstrated ability to read drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams. *Familiarity with all laws and regulations about equipment operation and repair. *Ability to operate all standard engineering and facilities management equipment.
Preferred *Philadelphia Class A Engineer License or the ability to obtain one.
