General Summary of Position
Manages performance improvement projects in alignment with MedStar's goals and objectives. Ensures that the operations improvement, planning, and implementation of operational improvements/patient safety are developed, initiated, and supported. Actively researches best practice in the realm of quality clinical care and, with the support of Quality Council, initiates performance improvement projects identified through this research. Identifies and provides quality improvement educational activities and information to committees, departments and/or individuals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research and advocates performance improvement initiatives; educates varied audiences concerning operational and clinical improvement.
  • Assists in the development of monitoring systems and tracks outcome data to evaluate successful implementation of performance improvement initiatives.
  • Manages and implements the integration of standard approach (Focus PDCA) to Performance Improvement. Ensures consistent mechanisms and processes within the hospital's performance improvement activities.
  • Keeps abreast of current information related to TJC, PI, Safety and other relevant topics. Attends applicable seminars and continuing education programs. Working knowledge of regional/national award opportunities, which recognize outstanding accomplishments in performance improvement, outcomes management, etc. and facilitates systems and processes that make the organization eligible to earn these awards.
  • Provides guidance to leaders and staff while facilitating prioritized improvement initiatives/patient safety initiatives to achieve desired outcomes utilizing evidence-based guidelines, while adhering to targeted timelines. Completes all aspects of this position in a service excellence manner.
  • Maintains effective communication with hospital executives, senior management, Quality Council, and physicians throughout the system regarding departmental activities. Provides timely information regarding the progress of Performance Improvement/Patient Safety initiatives.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree (clinical field preferred) required and
    • Master's degree in Business or healthcare field preferred

    Experience

    • 5-7 years Experience in healthcare management or healthcare consulting. required
    • Juran methodology for CQI quality control and quality planning; experience with TJC accreditation process and performance improvement or experience with TJC accreditation process and performance improvement.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • CPHQ - Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) certification preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Proven leadership skills.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.
    • Knowledge of TJC patient safety standards and current literature about safety environmental controls.

    This position has a hiring range of $80,995 - $152,027
