Researcher executes and manages research projects in the Preclinical Therapeutics Mouse Modeling Shared Resource (PTMMSR) facility in the Comprehensive Cancer Center; collaborates with the PTMMSR Director and Sponsoring Principal Investigator (PI) to develop and implement goals and objectives of studies; conceptualizes, designs and executes complex laboratory experiments; plans and executes advanced molecular, cellular and live animal techniques for preclinical animal studies using various mouse models of cancer; plans, coordinates and oversees processing and analysis of data; analyzes and interprets research data; develops and implements new and/or revised research methodology and techniques; plans and tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods; develops and establishes research controls, criteria and standards; performs critical and extensive analysis of literature relevant to research and fine tune study designs for its successful implementation; performs literature search for latest cutting-edge technology and techniques relevant to PTMMSRs mission to provide additional new services; responsible for beta-testing these new technologies/techniques for PTMMSR; collates relevant data to share with the PTMMSR Director and the Sponsoring Principal Investigator to write and prepare research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents; attends and presents research results at scientific conferences, workshops and seminars; assists with development, writing and preparation of grant proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research; monitors and enforces laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as local, state and federal regulations, including proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials and record-keeping; trains and/or supervises junior research staff and students on a daily-basis; manages daily operations of the laboratory; oversees and initiates procurement of lab supplies and equipment; provides technical assistance and supervision of equipment; oversees equipment service repairs; responsible for generating, tracking and record-keeping of billing to clients in internal invoicing platform for services provided.

Required Qualifications

A Masters degree in an appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 5 years of relevant experience in a biological/health research capacity is required; experience with preclinical small animal studies (mouse models specifically) is required. A Doctoral degree in an appropriate biological/health science field is desirable. Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
