Utility Coordination Manager

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Utility Coordination lead, in the transportation highway industry, to work onsite at one of our large transportation clients in the Bay Area. This position will be on-site in San Jose, CA. However, you will also be supporting projects throughout Northern California.

Responsibilities include:

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Utility Coordination lead, in the transportation highway industry, to work onsite at one of our large transportation clients in the Bay Area. This position will be on-site in San Jose, CA. However, you will also be supporting projects throughout Northern California.

Responsibilities include:

• Act as the liaison between utility companies, engineering and project management team
• to move project forward, streamline processes and resolve technical issues
• Responsible for negotiating utility Master Agreements with utility companies
• Ensure utility companies adhere to relocation designs, budget and schedule
• Reviews or assists in the preparation of contract documents and specifications as it
• pertains to utilities
• Interpret design drawings and specifications for construction projects, including storm
• drainage, gas, water, and power utilities
• Review, process, and validate utility company invoices and budget reconciliations
• Oversee field inspections, coordinate pre-construction meetings, and manage
• procedural guidelines for utility projects
• Develops and maintains record keeping systems including record drawings, checklists,
• data sheets and utility database
• This is a hands-on working manager position
• Supervise and guide agency and consultant staff to achieve project objectives

Education and experience:

• Bachelors degree in construction management, engineering or related field
• Experience leading relocation of utility facilities and new service applications for capital

• projects and utility locating.

• Understanding of utility property rights, state laws, and regulations regarding utility

• relocation and encroachment

• Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety practices, especially for

• utilities installation and relocation

• Experience in leading teams, coordinating with various departments, staff, project

• managers, design consultants and utility company representatives

• Familiarity with California Public Utilities Commission Tariff Rules and funding

• regulations for public works projects

• Understanding of Caltrans rules and regulations and utility owners rights to establish

• property exchanges and rights of way for transportation improvements
• Problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
• Exposure to deadline-oriented environment

The expected salary for this position is $137,000 - $167,000

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
