SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Responsible for overseeing track surveys, right-of-way mapping and other surveying related work on Amtrak owned or maintained properties. The person in responsible charge of all surveying activities in the field. They coordinate field work with their colleagues in Electric Traction, Signals and Communications, Structures, Division Engineers, Engineering Production and Real Estate. They maintain the equipment. They review and organize all field notes. They review cut sheets for construction layout. Their work is primarily in the office. They will be based out of either Wilmington, DE or Providence, RI.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Works autonomously and safely, supervising Amtrak field survey crew or consultant-provided survey personnel in surveying field work.

* Supervises and/or performs highly technical survey tasks using mobile surveying solutions, robotic survey equipment, GNSS equipment, and digital levels; reviews field notes and sketches.

* Directs the layout of engineering designs in the field for use by construction and maintenance forces.

* Creates survey plans for transmittal to design team members and the public.

* Responsible for reviewing track and right-of-way surveys and verifying that the lines and grades of the proposed improvements are within the clearance envelopes and right-of-way boundaries. The surveys include existing track alignment data, topographic surveys in support of track designs; layout in support of track construction and renewal; record surveys of completed work; boundary line surveys along the railroad right of way.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's Degree in Geomatics or Land Surveying, or a combination of education and experience.

* 10 years of relevant, progressive work experience in land surveying.

* Professional Land Survey license or registration

* Experience with surveying data analysis and adjustment software

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Fundamental knowledge of general civil engineering principles.

* Ability to read, understand and produce engineering drawings and documents.

* Ability to absorb information, think critically and make sound engineering decisions.

* Willingness to learn CAD software and become a highly skilled technical draftsman.

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point).

* Attention to detail and completeness.

* Valid driver's license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Participation in a professional survey society.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

* This is a flexible position with time allotted to both field and office work.

* Travel: 25%

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:

The salary/hourly range is$94,300-$122,256.Pay is based on several factors includingbut not limited to education, work experience, certifications,internal equity,etc.Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider ageo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offeradditional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees,including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual andcompany performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/orlong-term incentive plan compensation.
