Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Instructional Technology Specialist for the School of Social Work. Reporting to the Director of Instructional Design and Innovative Technologies at the Rutgers School of Social Work ( SSW), the Instructional Technology Specialist provides support to improve and enhance the design, development, and implementation of all courses (including online, hybrid and on-the-ground) within the Master of Social Work ( MSW) and Bachelor of Social Work ( BASW) programs.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Possesses specialized knowledge of pedagogical theory and instructional technology and serves as a primary support for SSW faculty and instructors developing, teaching, and revising courses.
  • Collaborates regularly with instructional design, information technology, and pedagogical colleagues across the campus and Rutgers system as well as with external university partners.
  • Works with faculty to assess and recommend new technologies and tools in instructional technology as they become available.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree with at least two years related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or related experience.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Position requires valid driver's license and travel throughout the state.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have experience teaching or training, preferably in higher education settings, and knowledge of current technologies for instruction.
  • Requires working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs.
  • Must have the ability to assess technology and software programs for instructional and other purposes; identify advantages and limitations of using various technologies for instructional purposes; effectively demonstrate instructional applications of technologies; effectively communicate technical information to a non-technical audience; and, establish cooperative working relationships.
  • Must be able to manage projects from start to completion and juggle multiple projects at different phases of completion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and the ability to work flexibly and patiently with faculty and staff with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on the use of technology in a variety of learning environments are critical requirements of this position.
  • Requires demonstrated experience with technologies including course management systems, office productivity suites, multimedia production software, web design, content management systems, social media, virtual worlds, and varied hardware platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, Instructional Design or related fields.
  • Familiarity with Quality Matters is a benefit.

Equipment Utilized

  • The position will use standard equipment for the assigned duties, including desktop computing tools, video and audio recording and conferencing tools and other software and hardware associated with producing online educational content.
  • It will use learning management systems such as Canvas heavily.
  • Other tools include the Microsoft Office suite of products, the Google suite of products and audio and video recording and conferencing tools.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The work environment will be a standard office environment combined with some studio work where video and audio recording may be done.
