Summary: Provide engineering and technical support services associated with the design, construction and operation of CenterPoint Energy's overhead & underground distribution system. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze customer submitted site plans, structural drawings, electric one-lines, schematics, and load analysis.
- Design overhead and underground facilities for electric service.
- Prepare cost estimates and Terms & Conditions packages for electric service to customers.
- Inspect customer required construction to approve/disapprove.
- Prepare work orders, easement documents, agreement letters and operational agreements.
- Perform cable pull analysis, protective device coordination studies, motor start and fault current calculations.
- Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards (i.e. National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, etc.).
- Support the construction, operation and maintenance of the distribution system through communication with field personnel and customers.
- Gather and analyze data, perform engineering studies, prepare written reports, give oral presentations related to distribution systems.
- Prepare new or revise engineering/technical specifications.
- Manage multiple projects involving customers, contractors and internal departments.
Education:
- Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- A Professional Engineer license in the State of Texas, or another state and actively pursuing license in Texas, can be substituted for the degree.
Experience:
- 3 plus years experience in electrical engineering, preferably in gas/utility or power generation.
- Able to use a PC, CAD equipment.
- Able to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations.
- Able to interpret, analyze and produce electrical models, drawings and technical documents.
- Able to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions.
- Able to make informed decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy.
- Able to calculate system short circuit quantities using sequence networks.
- Able to communicate effectively with engineering, construction personnel, customers, and others in written and verbal form.
- Able to prioritize and schedule tasks, pay attention to detail and demonstrate good organizational skills.
- Able to work and participate successfully in a team environment to accomplish assignments.
- Able to work well with both technical and non-technical personnel to gather and exchange information, resolve issues, plan activities and meet or exceed objectives.
- Able to manage time effectively, handle multiple tasks and priorities, operate under general direction, develop own work methods as required yet follow standard procedures and determine when management is to be consulted on unusual situations.
- Able to communicate effectively, in oral and written form, with co-workers, customers, vendors and the community.
- Able to exercise discretion, tact and good judgment in dealing with co-workers, customers, vendors and the community.
- Able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, listening ability and business acumen to communicate effectively with co-workers, customers, vendors and the community.
- Able to use SAP, G.I.S., Microstation for technical engineering applications.
- Able to use personal computer software proficiently, such as those for word processing, spreadsheets, database managers, presentations and electronic mail.
- Able to provide and maintain a valid state driver's license and safe driving record.
- Able to comply with all company driver safety policy requirements.
