What you'll do

We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our dynamic team in Tempe, AZ!

Manufacturing Engineers plan and manage all aspects of mechanical hardware fabrication including mechanical assembly for cables/harnesses, structures and mechanisms. Review and approve engineering drawings and specifications, write work instructions and generate bills of materials. Our Manufacturing Engineers ensure that projects are completed on schedule, following established procedures and work plans. Provide production support for manufacturing operations on a daily basis to remedy issues, enable on-time product deliveries, improve quality, and reduce cost, as well as analyze defect data and implement improvements to drive down defect rates. Maintain awareness of daily/weekly tasks/assignments to deliver products within the budgetary and schedule constraints. Work closely with the assembly, process technicians, material expediters/planners, production leads and operation program managers to ensure successful hardware fabrication.


The day-to-day

You will work in an exciting and fast paced environment with tasks including but not limited to:

  • Create work instructions using Solumina software
  • Contributing to design reviews acting as an expert in design for manufacturability, design for test, productivity, supplier capability assessments, quality control, etc.
  • Perform initial Value Stream Mapping exercises, Method of Manufacturing plans, cell design, etc.
  • Work in a cross-functional team including, Quality, Production Control, Engineering, and Program Management
  • Interface with the quality team to resolve manufacturing engineering quality responsibilities, and when required, participate in problem containment and structured root cause and corrective action investigations.
  • Design, develop, and implement tooling and equipment for use in a production environment where appropriate to improve quality, delivery and/or cost performance.
  • Lead the continuous improvement process in your area using lean tools and techniques, such as 6S.

What you'll need

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a production environment fabricating electro-mechanical parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies.
  • Understanding of writing work instructions for fabrication of mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience in a high mix, low volume production environment. Understanding and experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design of Experiments (DOE) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a must.
  • Experience building/assembling space flight hardware.
  • Strong mechanical assembly, soldering, SMT and microelectronics packaging knowledge.
  • Expertise in the requirements to meet IPC-A-610 acceptability standard for Class 3 assemblies.
  • Expertise in the rework and repair of electronic assemblies to IPC-7711/7721 procedures.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment with good organizational / communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • US government position. US citizenship required.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Salary range

$90,000.00 - $141,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $111,500.00- $167,500.00/ annually
