Position Overview

The Content Center Manager is an information gatekeeper, a content decision maker, and a content vetter responsible for leading a team of content creators and overseeing the gathering and execution of content on digital and TV platforms, under the direction of the Managing Editor.

You are the point person during the day communicating incoming content to those outside the Content Center that need critical information daily. You will start your day with a handoff meeting with the Overnight Early AM Manager. You should have a clear understanding of important overnight news, trending stories, and how to follow them. The assignment file should be up to date, with detailed information to start the day with successful planning. You will work closely with the Managing Editor. You will oversee content gathering, digital content production, some TV content creation, and the logistics of crew planning, future planning, special event planning and lead communication between the Content Center, the Managing Editor and TV producers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Content Center Manager is the leader of the Content Center, the nucleus of the newsroom
  • Managing incoming and outgoing content, that includes the power to move crews in the field, logistics planning for any daypart, assignment functions
  • Responsible for keeping the Managing Editor, producers and radio updated on new, breaking content
  • Builds and executes short and long-term strategies to maximize engagement on all media platforms
  • Runs dayside and afternoon editorial meetings, pitching and vetting strong content with context
  • Directs and monitors online activities of all digital platforms
  • Constantly monitors web and social analytics and uses social tools to make strategic decisions
  • Works with reporters and photographers to spotlight material that will enhance digital stories
  • Monitors social media sites for comments and content to help drive and enhance our editorial process
  • Track story developments, both local and national, and communicate with the newsroom throughout the day
  • Creates 24/7 scheduling of the Content Center staff

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of web content management systems and social media platforms
  • Power to send out specific and personalized push alerts or text notifications
  • Must be able write and edit content for our digital and TV
  • Capable of leading, motivating and coaching a team and individuals
  • Highly organized, calm in pressure situations and able to make "game time" decisions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University in Journalism or Communications preferred
