Responsibilities
The Defense group supports the Department of Defense (DoD) mission to keep our homeland and its citizens safe. We provide solutions to improve the Nation's defense by providing software, systems engineering, IT, training and logistics and fleet management solutions. Peraton is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support the Peraton Team on the Application Arsenal (AA) program. Peraton provides engineering services including architecture, software development, cybersecurity engineering, test & integration planning, integration, fielding, quality assurance, documentation, and sustainment support of various Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC) software applications and initiatives including the Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (PEOC4I) Storefront (STFNT)/AA. This effort includes systems engineering, software development, and sustainment of these systems to allow their users to access, manipulate, and display relevant data for the users' mission. Peraton currently provides support in the areas of system administration, cybersecurity, operations and maintenance, and the analysis, assessment, and transition of emerging technologies to support DoD other government agency applications. What you'll do: The Systems Administrator will be responsible for the following but not limited to:
System Administration & Security Compliance
- Maintain system patches and operating system updates in accordance with Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance.
- Scan systems using ACAS and collaborate with the team to remediate vulnerabilities.
- Enterprise IT & Cloud Management
- Administer, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain Linux and Windows-based workstations, enterprise IT servers, and virtualized environments (VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V).
- Oversee the configuration, performance, and reliability of cloud-hosted EC2 implementing improvements to AWS and cloud infrastructures.
- Containerization & Orchestration
- Deploy and manage containerized applications using Kubernetes and other orchestration tools.
- Utilize containers (e.g., Docker) and orchestration configurations (e.g., Helm) to support microservice architectures.
- Collaboration & Problem Resolution
- Work closely with application developers, operations teams, and subject matter experts to support production applications and mission-critical software systems.
- Provide guidance, assistance, and coordination on complex issues to ensure timely resolution and seamless integration of system components.
Qualifications
What you will need:
- Education & Certification:
- BS in STEM (or equivalent) with 2 years of experience, MS in STEM (or equivalent) with 0 years of experience, or HS Diploma with 6 years of relevant experience
- CompTIA Security+ certified, or ability to obtain within 30 days.
- Citizenship & Clearance:
- Candidate must be a US Citizen.
- Possess an active/current DoD Secret clearance.
- Systems Administration Experience:
- 2 years of hands-on experience with Linux operating systems (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments (e.g., 2019, 2016).
- Proven experience with virtualization (VMware, VirtualBox, Hyper-V) and cloud computing infrastructures (e.g., Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure).
- Experience in maintaining Information Assurance Compliance (STIGs, ACAS, ENS/HBSS) and performing server administration tasks (user/group management, security permissions, group policies).
- DevOps & Automation Experience:
- Demonstrated 2 years of DevOps experience involving:
- Containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Rancher)
- Container orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes, OpenShift, Helm)
- Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Ansible, Vagrant, Terraform, CloudFormation)
- CI/CD automation tools (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins, AWS Code Build, Azure Pipelines)
- Proficiency in automation and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell) and working in headless RHEL environments.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity practices (e.g. HBSS) as applied to DevSecOps processes.
Note: Must live in the San Diego metro area. Desired Qualifications
- Experience with DoD accreditation processes (A&A, RMF, ATO) and identity management administration (Active Directory, AWS IAM, OpenAM).
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure management tools (e.g., AWS Systems Manager, Azure Monitor).
- Familiarity with cybersecurity tools (e.g., OpenSCAP, JFrog Xray, Coverity).
- Proficiency with the Atlassian suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket) and test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress).
- Experience configuring OIDC and OAuth applications is advantageous.

Target Salary Range
$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
