What you'll do
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Program Director to join our Duluth Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Business Area! We deliver sophisticated turnkey satellite ground stations to US Government end users, using groundbreaking technologies in antennas, modems, encryption, cybersecurity, and related areas! You will be responsible for overall ISR program management and be accountable for program execution, customer satisfaction, and BA financial performance. This position will have direct collaboration with customers, suppliers, and enterprise leadership. The role includes responsibility for guiding Viasat's ISR Technical Program Managers in their work and shaping program management business processes to achieve efficient business performance results.
The day-to-day
Your day-to-day activities will be filled with people and process management with an overarching focus on customer intimacy:
- Lead a team of Technical Program Managers (TPMs) running a portfolio of complex ISR Antenna programs spanning life cycle phases of Development, Production, and Sustainment. Key activities include providing programmatic and technical leadership, coaching, mentoring, and succession planning.
- Maintain sufficient TPM staffing levels to effectively execute BA portfolio obligations as well as enable ISR Business Development pursuits with TPM support
- Be accountable for the cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements of the portfolio through all program phases in accordance with Viasat VGate development framework
- Develop, manage, track, and report financial forecasts for all ISR programs within the monthly business rhythm
- Maintain a portfolio wide Risk & Opportunity Management process and hold TPMs accountable to effective program risk management
- Develop and foster a strategy of continuous improvement with ISR program management processes to achieve steadily improving financial performance of ISR program portfolio
- Provide executive level briefings to key internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure all required program resource needs including engineering and operations labor, materials, facilities, and capital equipment are coordinated effectively with the responsible functional group leadership to ensure program portfolio success
- Work with customers to settle needs, requirements, and new business opportunities during program execution
- Ensure customer satisfaction, maintain customer communication, and provide overall management of the customer relationships across the portfolio
- Ensure close collaboration between ISR Business Area leaders from Business Development, Program Execution, and through Aftermarket Services
- Support ISR BA strategic planning
What you'll need
- Demonstrated success managing programs within a DOD or Aerospace environment
- Deep knowledge and experience with core program management processes; demonstrated Earned Value Management System experience
- Understanding of customer contract types, procurement processes, and government funding approvals
- Proven competence managing a team of leaders in support of critical business objectives with a demonstrated 5-year minimum tenure in such a role
- Experience leading cross functional teams and working across different business organizations, geographical locations, and customer communities
- Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 10 years of prior related industry experience
- Solid technical background and strong financial skills
- Experience managing high value, business-critical subcontracts
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral, written, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Experience with internal executive, customer, and stakeholder communications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a clearance at Secret level, with eligibility for higher level accesses
- Ability to work out of our office in Duluth, GA
- Ability to travel up to 25%

- Previous Satellite Ground Station experience highly desired
- PMP or equivalent highly desired
- Prior experiences with process improvement methodologies, failure analysis, and structured decision making tools

Salary range
$208,500.00 - $297,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $259,500.00- $351,000.00/ annually
