Your Role With Us:

As a Nutritional Services Associate, you will be the welcoming face and voice of Salem Health's Nutrition Services Department, providing exceptional customer service through compassionate interactions with patients, visitors, and staff. Your responsibilities will include meal preparation assistance, accurate assembly and delivery of patient meal trays, and maintaining a clean, safe environment in our kitchen and dining areas. Your attention to detail and dedication directly contribute to patient wellbeing, comfort, and recovery by ensuring that each individual receives nutritious meals tailored to their specific dietary needs. What you'll do:

  • Resource Management: Maintains appropriate levels of food inventory and floor stock supplies, monitors refrigeration temperatures, and ensures proper organization and rotation of food items according to department standards.
  • Communication: Engages in clear, friendly, and professional interactions with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers to support a positive patient experience, both in person and over the phone.
  • Meal Delivery: Follows standard protocols to safely deliver meals to patients, including verifying patient identity, maintaining hygiene standards, and accurately logging tray delivery information.
  • Assist Patients with Menu Selections: Helps orient patients and visitors to the room service menu process and assists with meal selections based on dietary guidelines and physician orders.
  • Collaboration: Works closely with kitchen staff, clinical nutrition, nursing, and the call center to meet the dietary needs of patients through effective communication and coordination.
  • Accuracy & Information Management: Accesses and uses hospital computer systems to obtain and enter accurate patient and order information while maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to hospital policies.
  • Leadership: Demonstrates core competencies, contributes to performance improvement, assists with onboarding new staff, and identifies opportunities for service enhancements

Background/what we are looking for (MQ's):

  • High School Diploma preferred
  • Current Oregon Food Handlers Card Certification required within 30 days of hire
  • No experience required
