Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our Data Infrastructure team. In this pivotal role, you will design, develop, and optimize scalable, highly distributed systems for data migration and synchronization. This role requires a strong technical background in distributed systems, fault tolerance, and high-performance data transfer mechanisms to ensure the secure and efficient transfer of large-scale unstructured data across heterogeneous storage platforms, both on-premises and in the cloud.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the architecture and development of distributed, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems to enable efficient and secure data movement across multi-cloud and hybrid storage environments, including NAS, object storage, and cloud services.
  • Design and implement high-performance data transfer pipelines capable of managing petabytes of data, ensuring minimal downtime and reliability across distributed systems.
  • Address challenges in distributed system consistency, data integrity, and fault recovery to meet enterprise-grade SLAs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, project timelines, and deliverables.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in distributed systems best practices and development methodologies.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends in distributed computing, cloud-native architecture, and data storage technologies, applying innovations to enhance system performance and scalability.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years focused on designing and building distributed systems for data migration or synchronization solutions.
  • Strong understanding of various storage systems and protocols, including NFS, CIFS, S3, and cloud storage services like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java or C++.
  • Strong background in designing and implementing scalable data pipelines and handling challenges like network latency, bandwidth optimization, and error recovery in distributed environments.
  • In-depth understanding of storage protocols and technologies, including NFS, CIFS, S3, and hybrid cloud storage solutions.
  • Experience with modern cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, including their distributed storage and data movement services.
  • Proven track record of building fault-tolerant systems that ensure data durability and availability.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working in cross-functional, geographically distributed teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Atempo Miria, AWS DataSync, or similar data management solutions.
  • Familiarity with data protection regulations and best practices for data security during migration processes.
  • Prior experience in leading technical projects and mentoring engineering teams.

DDN

Join our dynamic and driven team, where engineering excellence is at the heart of everything we do. We seek individuals who love to challenge themselves and are fueled by curiosity. Here, you'll have the opportunity to work across various areas of the company, thanks to our flat organizational structure that encourages hands-on involvement and direct contributions to our mission. Leadership is earned by those who take initiative and consistently deliver outstanding results, both in their work ethic and deliverables, making strong prioritization skills essential. Additionally, we value strong communication skills in all our engineers and researchers, as they are crucial for the success of our teams and the company as a whole.

Interview Process: After submitting your application, one of our recruiters will review your resume. If your application passes this stage, you will be invited to a 30-minute interview during which a member of our team will ask some basic questions. If you clear the interview, you will enter the main process, which can consist of up to four interviews in total:

  • Coding assessment: Often in a language of your choice.
  • Systems design: Translate high-level requirements into a scalable, fault-tolerant service (depending on role).
  • Real-time problem-solving: Demonstrate practical skills in a live problem-solving session.
  • Meet and greet with the wider team.
  • Our goal is to finish the main process in 2-3 weeks at most.
